Let me preface: I've been living in Mexico for 4 years, I'm Italian and I've been around quite a few pizzerias. I went yesterday for the first time to this place that is close to my house. My girlfriend had already ordered on Tomato and the margherita there cost 170 while at the place 160. It was her idea to order it again because she said it was very good the first time she tried it. So I called and decided to go get it for takeout, but when I arrived something happened that left me stunned: The girl gives me the bill and from 160 that it was supposed to cost (that is 320 total) she tells me 408 pesos. I look at her and ask how such a difference in price is possible. She tells me that the take away boxes cost 20 pesos each, which ok fine they are not the only ones who do this in Tulum and other places so there was no problem. Pero with the boxes the total was 360 and not 408. I, tired, pay and realizing it was another 48 pesos more I ask her how this is possible. Only then, after paying, does the girl tell me that there is a surcharge of about 20 percent it was not really clear what for. It's fine if it had been the tip although in any case it seems mendacious to me not to mention it and force you to pay it, which happens but ONLY in beach clubs where by the way if pointed out there you can refuse. But this was not a tip, it is something that does not exist in heaven or on earth. A real scam to which the girl tells me: it is not mandatory...yes but you tell me only when I have already paid you and at first you were silent making me pay? Highly improper behavior and almost on the threshold of scam. Be very careful!
1* thing to note -- by what logic if I order on tomato a margherita for 170 pesos I pay 340 + 35 pesos delivery which is 375 pesos (without their 20% surcharge) and if a person goes to pick it up in person they pay even more?? but one will draft the prices with meaning...I have never seen any place where it is cheaper to have it brought home instead of picking it up on the spot. Ergo the organization and logic in handling prices and hidden costs is definitely mendacious and lying. I mean it is possible that they straighten the price to 170 on tomato when the box costs them 20 (when you pick it up) and then if I go there in person it costs me 160 + 20 that is more!!! What are you guys doing?
2* thing to note: --They can put the added costs they want, there is no question about that although in itself such a practice already seems to me out of all grace of God not denoting an iota of transparency and making you think as a first impression that they are trying to take more money from you than they should. The problem is that everything is done in silence without saying anything so that if the client does not ask for anything that cost is paid when instead EVERY CLIENT should, before payment, be warned of the cost and what it is because otherwise it is a real scam. Moreover, apart from waiting an extra 15 minutes for two daisies when the restaurant was completely empty..they also arrived half-burnt and so salty that my girlfriend. although it was she who, having already ordered it once, couldn't even eat a slice. Ergo I don't know how much they can reproduce the same pizza every time if in two times she had one good and one inedible ( according to her).
3* thing to note THEY ARE NOT ITALIAN, THEY ARE NOT REAL NEAPOLITAN PIZZAS AND I LIVED IN NAPLES. SO WITH ALL THE PIZZERIAS OF REAL ITALIAN EXPERIENCED PIZZA MAKERS I DON'T RECOMMEND IT AT ALL. ONE OF THE WORST EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD HERE IN TULUM IN...
Read moreOrdered in-restaurant for take away. The sourdough crust tastes great, but it took 35 minutes in an empty restaurant (seems local delivery service orders get prioritised). Base was also soggy / undercooked, even when specifically asking for extra crispy. Noticed 15% service was already included the bill (included in total, not even recommended), even though it was take away) order. I want to like this place because the dough does taste great - but it gets a 3* due to other...
Read moreDelicious authentic style sourdough pizza but unfortunately me and my husband got serious stomach pains about an hour after eating a few slices each. I'm not sure if it was food poisoning but we both felt awful and took a bunch of activated charcoal as soon as the pain started. It's now the next day and we still don't feel entirely right. Pretty disappointed that we wasted our money on food that made us sick and had to throw half of it...
