We had a fantastic meal here. The courtyard has a nice stylish atmosphere and is well lit. The food was excellent: the carne asada and al pastor tacos were classics with elevation, with hearty stewed beans on top of the carne asada and marinated mushrooms in the al pastor. These touches added complementing flavours and textures. The tuna aguachile was the best dish we ate in two weeks in Mexico! (And we had a lot of aguachile!) The dish was just so perfectly balanced with exciting complementary flavours! I liked both of the complementary salsas but in particular the green one was creamy, spicy, and awesome! The drinks were excellent as well: the tejunio cocktail was perfectly balanced with salt and the hibiscus one (it’s been a while I forgot the name) had a lot of harmonious nuance from herbs and spices. It’s worth noting that the prices here, as compared with elsewhere in Tulum, were quite inexpensive given the quality and attention to detail. Moisés, the proprietor, was an awesome host! He spoke to us a bit about his time at the place since he took it over a couple months ago, and his drive for excellence is clear and admirable. This was one of our first meals in Tulum and I would encourage anyone to make it one of your first as well; the cozy atmosphere and great food made for a...
Read moreI had a great experience dining at the Ona Resto Bar in Tulum, Mexico, yesterday evening. I definitely recommend it to everyone. You’ll remember it for sure!
The place has a nice, soothing ambiance, a great service and tasty food showcased in beautiful plate presentations that surely encourage clients to eat happily.
As an added bonus, you may meet good people from all over the world while you’re there as well.
I want to mention that they serve a tasty sesame seeds and peanuts salsa to accompany your dishes and they also sell a delicious natural, artisanal ginger beverage prepared within the restaurant. You make sure to ask for it when you dine there, ok? It tastes like kombucha.
I was told that they had live music one evening prior to my visit so, I’m planning on asking when the restaurant owners will have a music group playing live there again so that I head over to Tulum and experience that setting as well.
Do yourselves a favor and go to dine at Ona Resto Bar in Tulum. You’re going to be glad...
Read moreSlightly disappointed despite near perfect scores from others. Food was average. Tacos are smaller than average, the tuna in ceviche had the tendons that made it hard to chew, and the meat in the guacamole was overdone. The owners are very friendly and so is Poncho the dog (we didn’t mind him begging for food). Though we felt repeatedly pushed to order an additional dish which felt too much and it wasn't that good but we didn't have the heart to say it (the owner said "if you don't like it, you don't pay for it" but it's slightly uncomfortable). It’s a courtyard / outdoors and a giant cockroach on the wall will probably prevent me from returning. Bummer cuz I really wanted to like this place 😕
Edit: went again and had the chicken fajitas, the chicken was dry and the dish was extremely salty. Another person ordered the shrimp and said it wasn’t...
