Casa Nostra has been one of our favorite restaurants in SMA for years. I think we first ate there in November of 2020 and the food continues to be excellent. We have never had anything except excellent meals and service here.
Since we had our son visiting from out of town we requested to sit on the rooftop so he could enjoy the amazing views. It was somewhat of a tradeoff because while the view were spectacular (try to get a reservation during sunset), it was a bit chilly. The staff did their best to accommodate by providing heaters and blankets, but it was still a little cold.
Fanny our server was knowledgeable, professional, and friendly. She spoke excellent English and checked on us frequently throughout the meal. Service overall was fantastic and Casa Nostra has some of the best trained staff in San Miguel.
We ordered the oyster mushrooms Rockefeller as an appetizer to share. No oysters in this dish, but the oyster mushrooms, cheese, and breadcrumbs served on the half shell were to die for. Each member of our party remarked that having a half dozen of these would have made an excellent meal all by itself.
For my main course I ordered the Pasta Parmesan. It is prepared in a round of aged parmesan cheese and includes pancetta and mushrooms. The flavors blended together perfectly and the preparation really is a spectacle to behold.
My wife ordered the rosemary grilled lamb chops. It was served with grilled asparagus and potatoes and was delicious. This particular dish is not on the main menu but is a seasonal special.
Our son ordered the beef tenderloin which was grilled perfectly and had an excellent butter herb sauce. It was accompanied by sauteed mushrooms and pasta. It was tender and tasted delicious.
The dessert menu was pretty extensive and while we usually share a dessert, we wanted to try several different ones. I ordered the churros, which was actually a churros "bowl" filled with a cream sauce and fresh fruit. My wife ordered the chocolate mousse, which was creamy and delicious. Our son ordered the Volcano chocolate lava cake which was served with vanilla ice cream. I didn't get to try this one, but our son raced about it.
Unfortunately several of our photos didn't turn out, but I shared some of them that were halfway decent.
Casa Nostra is an excellent restaurant for that special occasion, be it out of town visitors, anniversaries, or birthdays. We highly...
Read moreWe were planning to place a large order 3,000–5,,000 pesos worth) after a long day of sightseeing and needed it to go due to a family member’s mobility limitations. Unfortunately, our experience with the greeter was disappointing. She looked us up and down before speaking, responded with an attitude, and acted as if she didn’t understand Spanish, even though I speak clearly and am frequently complimented for it. She also cited the kitchen being backed up, even though the restaurant was nearly empty.
We ended up taking our business elsewhere and were grateful to find another nearby restaurant that was warm, welcoming, and accommodating. I hope Casa Nostra takes this feedback seriously as the greeter is often the first impression of a place, and her demeanor likely contributes to the lack of business we observed.
Update: Hi Marco, I appreciate your thoughtful response. I understand things can get busy, and I respect that you have certain policies in place. That said, I want to clarify that none of that context about takeout usually not being available or needing to make an exception was actually communicated to us. We passed by your restaurant on the way home and we were holding a one-year-old and trying to manage a mobility-related situation, so clear, kind communication would have made a world of difference when we couldn’t refer to Google before noticing the restaurant. Instead, we felt dismissed. Within the interaction, we never said we understood. We said “we’re going,” and it wasn’t in agreement. It was in response to how we were treated. I hope this feedback is helpful as you continue to grow your team and customer...
Read moreOkay, folks, I gotta tell you about this fancy place we went to, hoping for a nice night out. Big mistake! We ordered Tagliatelle Pasta and a medium-cooked veal steak. Now, I'm not an expert, but I’m pretty sure the waitstaff wasn’t trained right. This place claims to be top-notch, but boy, they messed up our drink order, and it felt like forever before we even got water. I think I aged a bit waiting for it.
And get this: the kitchen is like a billion stairs down or something! We were told they were all booked up and super busy. Total fib! I could see empty tables, and the rooftop was like a ghost town. I guess they just wanted to sound popular or something.
When we finally got our food (I think a season changed while we waited), it was a train wreck. My steak was so overcooked, it could’ve been used as a doorstop. The pasta was way too salty, and they made a big show tossing it in a cheese wheel - which didn’t make it taste any better.
The owner needs a reality check. Seriously, if they think this food is great, they must be living on another planet. My advice to the owner: try your own food, man, and see how folks at the tables are not happy.
A little PS: I dunno if the good reviews for this place are fake, or maybe it used to be good a long time ago - like when dinosaurs roamed. Either way, take my advice: don’t go here. Save yourself the time and keep your taste buds...
