Maria Xoconostle — Restaurant in San Miguel de Allende

A beautiful restaurant located in a magnificent colonial courtyard. On the afternoon we were there an acoustic guitarist played relaxing tunes. Service was friendly and professional. The food was mostly good. We shared one of the salads, which was fresh but small for the price and came with an underwhelming dressing. My wife had the chile en nogada, which she said was delicious but ridiculously under stuffed. She left quite hungry. I had the tacos arranchera... the steak was tender, but it came with only a bit of chopped raw onion and cilantro. Tasty, but inadequate for the price. In the end, we enjoyed our lunch here, but I feel there are many other nearby choices where you can get far better value. But it's a lovely choice if you're not...

We walked into this place because of the setting, beautiful nice courtyard in an awesome antique building. I wanted to try something different and delicious and there it was, Lamb Mixiote, perfect combo of spices and spice, for the one who doesn’t handle heat, better try something else. I loved it. OMG. 😎😍 my husband had an equally delicious 😋 Chicken 🐓 breast in a green pipián (mole sauce made with pumpkin 🎃 seeds), out this planet 🌏! It's funny how people can have such different impressions of the same place. Many people have rated this place highly, but when we went during the Day of the Dead the service was poor, the waiters didn't know how to explain the food or drinks (the 4 of us spoke in Spanish between us), they were very slow and seemed depressed. It is true that the atmosphere is excellent, with the orange trees in the patio and a guitarist playing and singing at the right volume. But the food was mediocre. The cocktails poor. The service lousy. To top it off, when the "terminal" guy came to the table to charge our credit cards, he automatically added a tip, which at SMA is usually discussed before adding up the bill.

Es curioso cómo la gente puede tener una impresión tan diferente del mismo lugar. Mucha gente ha valorado este lugar muy bien, pero cuando fuimos durante el Día de los Muertos el servicio fue pobre, los camareros no sabían explicar la comida ni las bebidas (los 4 hablamos en español entre nosotros), eran muy lentos y parecían deprimidos.
