I ate there today. The room is grand and beautiful. The tables and chairs are beautiful, black leather armchairs, and spotted-hide covered armless chairs. The table linens are of high quality. The music was loud and thumping. I had to put my fingers in my ears to concentrate on a news story on my smartphone while I waited. I ordered a lemonade and a well-done rib-eye burger. The menu said it came with arugula and tartar sauce, and I asked for them on the side. I asked for a slice of tomato. A waiter came to my table after I ordered to ask again how I wanted the burger. I repeated well done - bien hecho --I wrote it on the pad for him. He said well done translated to tres quatro in Spanish, thanked me, and went to the kitchen. After a long wait (I was the only customer in the restaurant, but that was probably not unusual because it was mid-afternoon), a waiter brought me a medium-rare bacon cheeseburger. I was left alone with it for a while, finally flagged a waiter, who apologized and took it away. After another wait, another waiter brought me a medium bacon cheeseburger. I didn't feel like making another request, so I ate the first bacon cheeseburger of my life -- not something I'd ever order. Do they see an American and think we want bacon cheeseburgers? God bless. It was after 4 PM, and I had not eaten all day. It was okay. The lemonade came in a glass with a stem. I've been having lemonades all over San Miguel de Allende, each one more delicious than the last, but this one didn't belong in the same room with the others. They made it with limes (as expected) and dill pickle juice (not expected). A nice curl of sliced dill pickle was in the glass as garnish. It was terrible, but I was thirsty and drank it. It made me thirstier. The burger came with a small serving of matchstick French fries, a side plate with a dollop of ketchup, and a teaspoon. It was all rather sad, and I felt bad about it. The price was $360 in pesos. Trying to make it all better, I...
Read moreWe arrived with a party of five last Thursday night. Apparently they were not prepared for the large crowd they had that night. One person in our party received her mashed potatoes 30 minutes before she got her steak. After the mashed potatoes she received her French onion soup. One person ordered the Thanksgiving meal. She received it in a timely manner but said the turkey was incredibly dry. I received my lamb chops in a timely manner and they were decent, not great but not bad. My wife received her steak a full 30 minutes after I finished eating. When she got it, it tasted rancid and had a strange texture (this was supposed to be prime beef NY strip). She sent it back.
The biggest issue was that there was no rhyme or reason to when the food was brought to the table. Side dishes brought out 20-30 minutes prior to the entree, some orders were incorrect, salad brought after the main course had been served. Some entrees were brought out long after other diners had finished their meals.
When we received the bill there were multiple issues. We were charged for spinach which we neither ordered or received. We were charged for drinks that we didn't order or receive. They did take the returned rancid steak off the menu.
I will day the hostess sincerely apologized, but needless to say our dinner was a fiasco. I realize that sometimes restaurants have an off night, but this was so bad I am unwilling to give them a...
Read moreI have to admit I’m a little bit disappointed. Many of our friends back in the US highly recommended that we dine at San Francisco steakhouse. They mentioned that the staff was very friendly and that the location itself had a tremendous amount of history. They were absolutely right the staff was very friendly and the location does have a lot of history however and I emphasize however the policies are horrible. We dined had drinks and he didn’t walked around to do a little bit of shopping our goal was to do some shopping and then return and have a nightcap before calling it a day however we were declined using the restroom. Yes great food, Great cocktails but declining my girlfriend from using the restroom horrible customer service. I hope the business owner changes of policy in the near future.
