Love love love love this spot!! Excellent service, DELICIOUS traditional Mayan food, with excellent informational and friendly atmosphere!! Juan and Pacho were our servers and were so kind and funny. TL;DR definitely not a spot to miss!!!
We ordered the sikil paak, black stuffing, pipin pork, and various margaritas and mojitos (mango, cucumber, passion fruit, jalapeño, tamarind) and a Chaya drink. We loved each dish for its unique and full flavors - My favorite was the sikil paak, which was nutty and fresh, my sister’s favorite was the black stuffing, which was a savory and flavorful pork soup that was not too heavy, and my friend’s favorite was the pipin pork, which was a thicker richer corn broth with lots of chunks of meat. All were extremely hearty, made fresh and came with warm handmade corn tortillas - to die for!! For dessert we ordered pan elote with coconut ice cream - a corn and cheese cake-like dish and we enjoyed the texture and subtle sweetness of the combo.
The TVs playing included lots of information on the origins of different Mayan cuisine, which was a cool bonus.
Pacho was so patient and answered all of our questions and gave us excellent recommendations. Juan was such a character and making jokes and making us feel at home - we laughed so much while here! Juan sang happy birthday, did a little dance, brought us extra drinks, and even when we went to pay, we overcalculated the tip and Juan recommended a lower amount.
We’ve also heard they teach cooking classes here and we would definitely come back to try them.
10000/10 would recommend - come support this business and enjoy delicious food and excellent service as well!!! Thanks, IX-Kool for the...
Read moreMy friends were skeptical when I suggested this place for dinner, the lone business open in an empty strip mall, but it did not disappoint. The menu included a bunch of unique dishes that I'd never heard of or tried before, which is 100% what I seek out when I'm traveling somewhere new. One of my friends said it was her favorite place we'd eaten during our entire week long stay in Cozumel, and my friend with a wheat allergy was delighted to learn the entire restaurant is gluten free.
Sikil P'aak: Amazing. Incredible. Star of the show. I was blown away by how a dish with so few ingredients (it was prepared right in front of us by Tiffany) could have such depth of flavor. Even the picky eaters at the table enjoyed it.
Pibil mushrooms: Delicious, my second favorite thing at the table. Savory, well balanced, interestingly spiced and well textured.
Aguas frescas: I sampled all four of the traditional Mayan beverages offered. The chaya one was the most unique and definitely my favorite, and the saacab was a close second, but the rest were good too.
Chaya soup: This was not my favorite thing on the menu, but definitely unique, and I am glad that I tried it. It's good to whet the appetite.
Polcan of Ibes: I appreciate the vegan protein option, but I thought these could have used more salt and flavor. I am glad I tried them, but don't think I'd order again.
There is something for everyone at this restaurant. The food and the service are excellent, and it is worth visiting for the sikil...
Read moreRegardless of how you get to Cozumel, you owe it to yourself to visit lx Kool!!! Wife and i just visited after cruising in for the day, and the restaurant and Juan does not dissapoint. We highly recommend going bto Trip Advisor and signing up for their cooking class. We were greeted and sat down to a table loaded with fresh ingredients that we used to make quacamole dip, and another do using grilled tomatoes, habenero, and pumpkin seeds!!! We then made tortillas by hand, then we were served tortillas loaded with more fresh ingredients, then soup, then mexican cornbread with coconut ice cream!!! Easy too much food for any one person! Juan walked us through how the ancient mayans made their food, talked us through how they made their seasonings, and was more than hospitable. The seasonings were so good, we purchased each one and brought some home! We used it last night with grilled chicken, and it was superb!!! Cant say enough good things about Juan and lx Kool. If you are ever in Cozumel and miss this opportunity, you are really doing yourself a disservice. Btw, this place is in very easy walking distance to any of the cruise terminals. It sits in the shopping center behind Hardeock Cafe and the Harley Store. Very clean,...
