First let me say that I was warned before we went that we would be practically bullied by shopkeepers so we thought we were ready after Costa Maya and Roatan. Nope, not even close. Me writing this will not prepare you. We have never seen anything like this in our lives. They did everything with the exception of physically dragging us into the store. Bribes, free shots, you name it. I went into a novelty shop looking for playing cards. We collect playing cards with the names of places we've been. The owner offered me a shot of tequila. I thought why not. Oh my. I didn't know there was a difference between American and Mexican Tequila. That shot about knocked me flat on my butt! About a second after I took the shot he takes out jewelry. I didn't even know he sold jewelry. I barely made it out of there! At one point my husband and I got separated we would use the excuse "I need to find my husband/wife". The shop owner would answer. "You're on vacation, get a new one". Finally after being there about an hour we stopped being friendly and just ignored them. I hated to do that bc its not my nature but they weren't going to stop. Be forewarned! Now as for the shops. We really didn't see much special here. IMO the shops at Costa Maya had much nicer things. Almost everything here was the same from shop to shop. There was the occasional rare thing but I would not save your money for Cozumel like I did. We had the most fun at Senior Frogs. If you go to the port make sure you stop there, you...
Read moreOf course, we were there on vacation. So we were already excited, but our interaction with the shops were great. We had a great experience at Dimonds International. We had an awesome guy helping us. We wanted some tanzanite but had a limited budget. He showed us a beautiful bracelet. It was a little over but we decided because he was a good salesperson we would get it. As he was helping us he saw my brother looking and asked one of his coworkers to help him the coworker acted like he did not hear him and when he motioned for him to help my brother he indicated no with a look like they are not going to buy. So the guy who helped us then went over to help my brother. He too knew my brother was not going to buy as a good sales person will be able to tell who is and who is not going to buy. Yet he still did his job and he helped him. I saw this interaction and when I found an opportunity to grab him alone I thanked him for helping my brother. I told him I saw the interaction between him and his coworker and told him I appreciated him giving me and my brother the time of day. Even though our purchases were not the most lucrative. So if you are at the port and shopping, I hope you get the same guy we had. You will be...
