The restaurant gives off an abandoned and cheap vibe. It feels like a depressing blend of communist-era kitsch, where the atmosphere of a Bordeaux underground cellar is awkwardly mixed with low-quality uPVC doors. The restroom, while not dirty, resembles a neglected student camp bathroom. The overall ambiance is poor, dreary, and forgotten.
I tried the aubergine tahini from their special Greek menu as a starter, followed by a medium fillet steak with a glass of Purcari Rara Neagra. The pita served with the aubergine was fresh and tasty, but the aubergine hummus itself was bland and dry—5/10, nothing remarkable. The steak was presented on a coal-heated stand, but the coals weren’t lit, making it a purely decorative gesture. It was served with a few slices of vegetables. I ordered a medium steak, but it arrived medium-well and overly watery. Strange bubbles of boiled meat juice appeared on the stand, giving the impression it had been microwaved. The steak wasn’t terrible, but it was just ordinary, lacking seasoning and tasting more like boiled meat.
The one redeeming aspect was the house red wine, Purcari Rara Neagra. Although I can’t be sure it came from a freshly opened bottle, the wine itself was very good.
The server was friendly and efficient.
Overall, the place feels run-down, with food on par with a buffet. I’m surprised it’s ranked so highly on TripAdvisor, as Chisinau has plenty of excellent dining spots. I wouldn’t recommend it for special occasions, and it’s probably overpriced for a casual...
Read moreDon't go to this restaurant if you don't wanna leave tips (significant amount) :D Food is average but overpriced. Cleaning and renovation needed. Waiter was kind at serving time but in the end he made us feel uncomfortable for coming and ruined the chance to come here again. We got a check to pay 1,227MDL, so we paid cash 1,230MDL (nearly the exact needed amount) - and this was the moment when waiter got upset because apparently we are not going to leave more tips but 3MDL only claiming that it was an insult for him. By the way, we didn't even plan to leave tips such as it definitely needs improvements. We ordered 2 glasses of red wine, one cabernet and one merlot - to be honest we tried hard to feel a difference between them, it seemed like both glasses were poured from one single bottle.. moreover, the wine was too cold to drink. Also, we ordered desserts assorti (one portion for 2 persons) which costs 280MDL - but there was 2 pieces of cake only and ice-cream in the rest which is the cheapest element from desserts menu (so not really an assorti). Conclusion: overpriced, friendly stuff at first but nothing special in the end and...
Read moreI was there yesterday (13 March 2016). Great food and wine. The only disappointing moment was the nonchalant neglect of the waiters after the manager had left at about 10 pm. I had to come to the counter twice to make additional orders and finaly to pay the bill while the waiter and the cloakroom attendant were relaxing on the chairs. Reminds me of the infamous Soviet restaurants of the 1980s. It surely does not help Grill House´s reputation. Your employees should understand that there is a clear link between customer´s presence in the restaurant today and their salary at the end...
