The Loft — Restaurant in Essaouira

Excellent quirky fusion food. I had the dish of the day yesterday. This being swordfish which the waiter said will melt in the mouth. Sceptical, I ordered it. Nothing to be sceptical about. It was precisely that. Cooked right through. Neither over nor under. Had a brilliant goats cheese in pastry starter. A quirky carrot, orange and ginger drink. Totally fresh. In a glass jamjar with handle. Lively but quirky decor. Good service. Limited but excellently executed menu. Definitely a favourite of mine in Essaouira. Settle in, relax, they got this. Deserving of 5 stars. Can get busy as it's small and I had to come back but that's just evidence of a well liked restaurant. Priced fairly (average for Essaouira) and portions are not too big. If you're looking for a solid dining experience in Essaouira, The Loft might be worth considering. During my visit, I tried the grilled octopus and while it was okay, it didn't particularly stand out. The flavor was good, but it could have benefited from a bit more seasoning. However, overall it was a decent dish that was satisfying.

The service at The Loft was also okay. The staff was kind and attentive, making sure that my needs were met throughout the meal. They were happy to answer any questions I had about the menu, and were overall pleasant to interact with.

This was definitely the best restaurant so far in Essaouira. The place has a very nice retro theme and you can hear tunes of Elvis's times and it just comes together well with the decor. A warm welcome and the owner brought some nice warm baguette slices and green and black olive tapenades before drinks came in quirky cactus shaped glasses. Dishes were: Octopus salad, Crab & avocado, Grilled octopus, Gambas with saffron sauce, Dukkah marinated chicken (Bill was a total of 590DH) Only the crab & avocado had less oompf (too much avocado) than the other dishes which really fired on all cylinders.
