My boyfriend and I were visiting Morocco during Ramadan and we were struggling to find a place opened in Fès, so we ended up here. I have to admit our priority was always to try local food, not japanese one, but then we had the best restaurant experience in the all vacation. We were welcomed by the waiter, originally from Morocco who was speaking great English, Spanish and Japanese. I was amused by the fact he could speak so many languages, but the fact I liked it more was that he improved japanese while working at the restaurant with the owner and chef, originally from Japan. The chef was making the sushi real time with fresh ingredients and talking about his experience of coming to Morocco to share his culture. The care and the attention he put in the sushi, made it so tasty that even my boyfriend, very sushi skeptical, liked it. Not only the fish was fresh, but the Wasabi was the exact right amount that makes you love every bite of it. The matcha tiramisù was incredible (and I am Italian :)). I want to close this super long review by saying that it was an experience that it makes you feel happy that we live in such an open world, with so many different cultures coming together. Read moreWhat a discovery in Morocco! IKI Sushi is an authentic Japanese Sushi-ya in Fes with a team of both Japanese and local staff bringing together their respective styles beautifully to create a welcoming atmosphere for all patrons. Having lived in Japan myself, I can vouch for their genuine preparation of food and the taste of their creations. Options such as the Omakase, Miso-soup and Katsu-don were stand out choices. As with all things Japanese, the food is not the only reason you would come here. You will find a Japanese welcome akin to what is customary in Japan and I did think for the entirety of the evening that I was, infact, in the land of the rising sun. Although my purpose of visiting Morocco was for the local food and appreciation of the culture, this was a welcome bonus which emanated surrealism, and a surprising addition to the oasis of Fes. I would recommend the experience wholeheartedly and encourage all who wish for a slight cultural deviation to help you appreciate Morocco with a new depth to swing by IKI Sushi and be met with a warm embrace.

Read moreThe food is good and it definitely is value for money. The fish ramen was made with flavorful fish stock. The kani jyu miso soup was excellent and it was a pretty big bowl, albeit a bit on the salty side. The omakase sashimi and unagi burger were nice as well. The price is literally half of what we were paying in the US, when put into context the quality was excellent.
The service was fantastic and the whole staff kept the Japanese custom of seeing customers off standing at the front door. We were surprised to find such a decent japanese restaurant in Africa!
The place has a small footprint so its a bit hard to find. Recommend the owner to put a colorful paper lantern instead of...
