From the heart of Balwatar, Jimbu Thakali serves as a sanctuary for those in pursuit of traditional Nepalese flavors. As a party of five, we embarked on a culinary journey, opting for the Chicken, Mutton, and Fish Thali, each dish embodying the rich and diverse heritage of Thakali cuisine.

The Thali spread was a picture of color, taste, and tradition, with each element on the platter holding its own. The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection, melting effortlessly with each bite. The mutton was rich and flavorful, exuding a rustic charm that transported us to the picturesque terrains of Mustang. The fish, fresh and succulent, told tales of the rivers that crisscross through the heart of Nepal. A special mention to the daal, the soul of the Thali, that was just the right consistency and taste, binding the entire meal together.

The staff was courteous, attentive, and exhibited a fine blend of professionalism with a personal touch, ensuring our meal was nothing short of delightful. If you’re looking for authentic Thakali cuisine with top-tier customer service, this is the place to be—arguably the best in Kathmandu, if not all of Nepal. We ordered a Chicken Thakali Set and a Cheli-Jwai Thakali Set, which originally includes fish, mutton, chicken, and veg. Since neither of us are fans of mutton, the incredibly kind waitstaff let us swap it for extra chicken instead. That small gesture made a huge difference. Thanks to the kind Vai. The food itself? Unreal. Every bite was packed with rich, authentic flavors, perfectly balanced spices, and the kind of warmth that makes you feel right at home. The daal was smooth and comforting, the Saag was fresh and Aaloo amazing. Karela was top notch too just like everything else. The Chicken Thakali Set was spot on, and the variety in the Cheli-Jwai Set made it a great choice for anyone wanting to try a bit of everything.
