Avoid at all costs during weekends and holidays!
Iâve been to this place beforeâfood is decent, staff are friendly, and although wait times can be long, it's manageable on regular days. However, my recent experience during New Year was beyond disappointing.
I took my family expecting a good meal, but instead, we were met with a place filled with flies, dirty tables (which we had to ask multiple times to be cleaned), and a server who didn't attend to us for at least 15 minutes. We were served watered-down, sour coconut water that clearly had been sitting in the fridge for who knows how long.
As for the main course, "Thakali"âwe waited over an hour only to be served a mutton thali plate with just one piece of mutton. There was no soup, no rice left in the kitchen, and the dish arrived cold. By the time we were finally offered extra rice and vegetablesâafter we had already finished what little was on the plateâwe had lost our appetite. Their excuse? It was New Year and they were overcrowded. If that was the case, they should have informed us before taking our order so we could have chosen to go elsewhere.
What made it worseâno apology, no discount (we paid in full), and not a word from the manager or owner. What a way to ruin customer's New Year. Thankfully, the staff remained polite and kept smiling, which is the only positive takeaway.
I sincerely hope they learn to say no to more customers when they clearly canât handle the capacity. Sales arenât everythingâcustomer experience matters just as much, if not more. I wonât be returning to this place, not because of the food, but because of this...
Read moreThis place is not suitable for visitors. The staff do not speak decent English, neither can they communicate what the local menu provides. We wanted to explore Nepali cuisine, but they couldn't explain what was in the menu. They showed some videos which is hardly a substitute. Anyways, vegetarians will be disappointed sorely as the choice, flavors and appearance - all are bland and flavorless. For non-vegetarians this place can offer some flavour but very limited. The second aspect is the price....for the price of the thali, it was extremely bad. The only commendable aspect is the ambience and cleanliness. I did see the locales enjoy the food, so perhaps this is suitable for localities. But I would definitely not recommend for visitors who would like flavourful food, specially from India.
I would urge management to train their staff better in talking English and also explain what the cuisine entails and give other options to try. I wanted to write this review as the staff didn't even offer a jug of water for refill....or refill our glasses promptly. Makes me also wonder whether there is a racial aspect here....localities and westerners were being...
Read moreWe recently visited Local Thakali and unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. The restaurant was crowded, and almost all the tables were reserved except one sofa set and a few in the middle of the restaurant. Since there was no "reserved" sign on the sofa set table, and we were a group of four, we went to sit there. Despite calling the staff multiple times, they kept ignoring us. Finally, one staff member (a girl) approached us and rudely told us that the table was reserved and asked us to move to the middle tables because âpictures come out better there.â That comment felt disrespectful and unprofessional it seemed like they assumed we were there just to take photos, not to dine. When we asked why there was no reserved sign, she casually said, âWe forgot or didnât have one.â For a restaurant that claims to offer good service, this kind of behavior was really disappointing. No matter how good the food might be, such disrespectful treatment ruins the entire experience. Weâre never going back to...
