Fortunately I was able to restrain myself from ordering one of everything. It helped that as we stepped into the light, cleanly furnished interior, with walls adorned with charming line drawings, the trays below the counter hadn't yet filled up. Without an array of doughnuts running circles around us (we were informed they would make an appearance at 10.30am), it was easier to settle for cupcakes and coffee. I chose a perfectly dusted Tiramisu, my friend went for a chocolate cake with what I thought was an excessive whorl of dark cream on top.

Now if you're looking for real Tiramisu, this is not it, but a yummy, light cupcake remix. The chocolate was uneventfully reassuring, but the coffees were more intriguing. Both the iced and hot Green Tea Lattes were superb the creamification of the distinctive flavour of green tea has to be one of the more successful cafe trends of the last few years. Watch out if you think your Caramel Macchiato needs a supplementary sugar cube or two though, and I'd recommend the Pumpkin Latte only for the adventurous.

By this time the doughnuts were being laid out, tray by tray. For those accustomed to our chiya pasal ko doughnuts, Hessed is a revelation. Take your pick from rows upon rows of doughnuts glazed with dark and white chocolate (with multi-coloured sprinkes), doughnuts armed with choco-chips, strawberry jam-filled doughnuts, and more. I could only look on, wondering if I might turn diabetic within the day, but finally asked for one. All things considered, it was fairly light, in stark contrast to the greaseballs that masquerade as doughnuts in the aforementioned teashops, and perfectly executed. Prices are reasonable too, at Rs 45-55 per piece, compared to other 'fancy' coffeeshops about town. Most of what's at Hessed is consistently good rather than exceptional, which probably suits cupcakes and doughnuts just fine.

Hessed's ideal for coffee dates, or simply to bring your laptop and work without the distraction of restobar tastes in music. Hang on, I think my sugar rush has faded. It's time to reach into that...

BEST KIMBAP FOUND IN NEPAL šŸ”„

I've tried kimbap from various places in Nepal and abroad (UK, US, & Thailand, but not S. Korea), but Cafe Hessed truly stands out with the best kimbap I've ever tasted, offering exceptional value. (Haha really wish I was sponsored for thisšŸ˜†)

My personal favorites are Cafe Hessed's tuna & chicken kimbap, along with their delightful sweet mocha cupcakes. My go-to drink during the summer is their thirst-quenching lemonade. Not gonna lie tho, I truly miss their donuts. Those were gems!

I'm a regular customer (since 2013-14) with weekly takeouts, sometimes even three times a week! The warm and consistent service from Cafe Hessed's lovely family has won over their customers' hearts. Unlike many restaurants in Nepal, Cafe Hessed maintains taste and consistency without hiking up prices excessively, ensuring a loyal customer base.

As a Nepali, Cafe Hessed’s kimbap has become my comfort food on good, bad, or rainy days. I’m certain that if they opened a Korean restaurant, there would be a line of people waiting outside. Cheering on your business...

You NEED to try this place—seriously, don’t walk, RUN! This is hands down the best and most authentic kimbap I’ve ever had (and I’ve had plenty).

The staff is incredibly kind, service is quick, and the best part? The owner is Korean, so you know you’re getting the real deal. The menu is simple—kimbaps, cupcakes, and drinks—but they also sell a container of radish kimchi for 290. Plus, they make their own kimchi!

The space is warm and welcoming, and I’ve already been twice—I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. It’s a hidden gem in Jhamsikhel, especially popular among school kids. My only wish is for them to expand the menu a bit—maybe add kimchi fried rice, cabbage kimchi, bibimbap, tteokbokki, fish cakes, and some Korean desserts. But honestly, it’s already perfect.

The kimbap portions are generous and super filling, served with a side of radish kimchi and a soul-soothing soup (not sure what kind, but it’s amazing). If you love Korean food, this spot is...
