This was our 3rd time trying this restaurant and when we walked in they were not busy (we did make a reservation). We had ordered appetizers which were delicious (la falla and Caesar salad). I will state to ask for dressing on the side because it is a lot. We asked them not to rush our meal so we could drink, eat and enjoy dinner when it all started to fall apart. My husband asked for bread to enjoy the appetizer and it never came and when he pulled a waiter to ask they never ordered it and by then he was done and the waiter walked away leaving the empty plate on the table. The chef came over, introducing himself and we explained the issues when within 5 minutes our meal was out which remind you we asked to hold. My husband ordered the 12 oz NY strip (40% was fat and not edible) due to how it was cooked. My meal posted looked great but when I cut into the steak it was not what I ordered. They did offer a new steak but by then we were so turned off being rushed and lack of communication that it was not worth it. We added for an extra $6 each the potato au gratin that they were over cooked and inedible. We actually had to remind them we ordered them. The initial waiter was amazing in trying to rectify multiple short comings by offering free drinks and bottled water. The lobster was great, my vegetables under my steak were cold and greasy from the fillet. Again not sure what they are doing at this steakhouse. I will say that my husband had forgotten that 2 years ago we went here and I had food poisoning because as soon as I got back to our house I started getting ill and was until everything was out of me. BTW I know food poisoning since I’m in healthcare. We will not recommend or attend this overpriced, rushed and horrible food again. Just glad I only dropped a $118 (they credit steak and not the inedible potatoes) not including tip that the waiter didn’t want to take but we left him cash for his professionalism. We would of ordered wine and dessert and last time we dropped around $400 for a party of 2. We were so disappointed I couldn’t take any photos except my meal due to being rushed and...

(I just saw the response from the owners. There were not that many people there actually eating. It actually looked very empty apart from our area that was over crowded due to your worker's lack of respect for safety. So those 150 covers must have been at a different part of the day because there is no way that there were even 20 people in the location. Also my husband ended up getting sick from your appetizer and ended up throwing up in your bathroom.)

Food was good, for the most part and the experience was awful. You'd expect that if you are paying $45+ for a steak that you'd be able to actually enjoy it.

First we got seated and the hostess tells us that they were out of a good chunk of their menu. Then the clientele we were seated near were absolutely awful. Incredibly loud and very inconsiderate of other guests. One of them took their phone and started facetiming her grandfather. Then they had a rotating door of their friends standing ontop of them and crowding us. (Not covid safe in the slightest - none of them were wearing masks) The staff did nothing about this and continued to ignore us as we tried to get their attention.

The staff either couldn't hear me or dont know what "medium-rare" means when it comes to steak as I either got complete raw blue in the center steak or (I had to send it back to get cooked) medium/medium well. I just accepted the latter and ate it.

On top of all of this the restaurant forces you to tip even for the worst service we've had. (we still would have tipped just not the forced 20% as it definitely didn't deserve that)

So like I said the food I could eat was good just not cooked properly and this place should NOT be labeled under...

Let me start by saying I'm sure that Jax has decent food and ambiance, and plenty of people have had good experiences there. However, we booked a table for New Years Eve in advance via their website, and there was no indication on the main page or the reservation site that there was a prix fixe menu or any other restrictions; we assumed they would be serving their much larger normal menu. They only emailed us recently to provide us with the prix fixe menu, which has dishes that I'm sure some people would enjoy, but nothing for the more plain eaters in our party. The price is also $135 per person...compared to the maybe $60-70 we would have spent each. We also don't each need our own appetizer, dessert, etc. They're obviously trying to maximize the profit per table by forcing patrons to buy extra food on this busy night, but to do so with very little notice is frustrating.

Needless to say, we had to cancel and scramble to find another place for New Years Eve. Unfortunately, all of our top options were already booked due to the lack of advance notice from Jax, so now we are spending New Years at home. Not the end of the world by any means, but you would expect a place that's rated the #2 restaurant on the island by TripAdvisor to be better at communication. I'm sure Jax will have no problem filling our table, which is probably why they won't respond to this review or the reply we sent in response to their email. I read a recent review that describes how methodical and impersonal the service is, so I guess this makes sense. Disappointed to say the least, maybe we'll try them next time we're...

Exceedingly efficient & professional service, the food was good but overall it was well over priced for what we got. We most likely wouldn't go back until we hear differently to give it another try. The service was rushed and though nice and not rude it was not welcoming but rather prescribed and assembly line-ish. For apps we had the cauliflower and duck, foie gras puff pastry...the cauliflower won hands down but served so hot it burnt both our tongues. For mains I had the filet with foie gras my partner the surf n turf. The steaks were both slightly over cooked (medium vs medium rare). The lobster looked like an extra large Argentinian red shrimp. The veggies (broccoli, asparagus, zucchini) were all over cooked and borderline mushy. The whipped potatoes we're light, tasty and nice, bit shouldn't be the best thing on the plate. The whipped blue cheese butter was probably the highlight along with the two Tablespoons of lobster bisque. The bread served was a bit under cooked and doughy. The dessert was lack luster, chopped apple compote on top of what tasted liked home made whip cream in between two slices of puff pastry... nothing to write home about. I understand the need for scale, but this was an underwhelming attempt...or a younger less experienced chef.

Visiting Jax Steakhouse during our summer holiday in St. Martin was one of the best decisions we made. This place is a true hidden gem — perfect for a romantic date night and an ideal break from all the seafood options on the island. What makes Jax so special is the experience. The chef personally comes to your table to present the cuts of steak available that day, giving you the chance to select your preferred cut and how you’d like it cooked. I went with the filet mignon, and my fiancé chose the skirt steak — both were cooked to absolute perfection and packed with flavor. We also ordered a side of truffle fries, which were crisp, well-seasoned, and paired beautifully with both our steaks. A definite must-try! Before the main course, we were welcomed with fresh bread and two incredible compound butters: truffle butter and blue cheese butter. Both were rich, flavorful, and expertly seasoned — the kind of little detail that really elevates the whole experience. If you're in St. Martin and want a luxurious steakhouse experience with top-tier service and flavor, Jax should be at the top of your list. Highly recommended!
