Le Moulin Fou
Our favorite restaurant on the island after exploring and trying so many other places in different neighborhoods and parts of both, Dutch and French sides. Very convenient location on Maho Beach Plaza which is a very nice and alive area in the evening. I am in a restaurant business and I am all about good food. This was definitely great quality french food with many choices and pretty nice variety on the menu. Everything we got was absolutely outstanding and all portions were very decent size. We expected smaller ones. My wife tried frog legs and she absolutely loved it... We had all three different foie gras dishes- outstanding. The baked mussels- awesome. Great avocado/ crab salad. Our filet mignon, lamb steak with goat cheese in pastry, red snapper were incredible. The desserts- omg! Simply delicious. Also, they have beautiful presentation of all dishes. But most importantly, what the have and what swept me off my feet was their EXCELLENT SERVICE and how nice our server was. Oliver was super pleasant, nice, talkative and has a great sense of humor. He gave us recommendations about the menu with all detailed descriptions of sauces and everything what comes in all dishes. I wish all of my waiters had a great attitude and knowledge of my menu just like that. We were absolutely pleased with everything! Plus, they give you complimentary shots of rhum at the end... we really got used to this kind of treatment and now we are quite upset about coming back to our New York. We want to stay in St. Maarten and just chill at Le Moulin Fou;))) Thank you for everything! If we could give you 7 stars here, we...
Read moreWe had dined here many years ago and hadn’t been in a while so we decided to have out last meal prior to departure. We were hopeful as the greeting and service staff were engaging, friendly and knowledgeable. Alas the food did not measure up. It was sustenance at best. The crab with avocado was beautifully presented but the crab was sub par canned crab. My husband had chicken cor don bleu and while the flavors were ok it arrived luke warm. The pasta that accompanied it was inedible. I had the duck breast and ordered it medium per the chef’s recommendation and received it rare. It was not properly rested so when carved it became tough. We were so hungry as we sat down at 7:00, ordered fairly quickly and our main courses did not arrive until after 8:30 so we did not send the entrees back but ate what we could. We did advise the server of the issue with the crab as we did not finish it and when asked about the main courses we did advise them if the issues. They took $25 off of a bill that was about $200 which was an accommodation but we would have rather had a great meal as we are accustomed to in St. Maarten. Please also be aware of the small “sc” which is the service charge and while several restaurants do this it felt unusual as other places typically have it marked with the full word “service” or “service charge”. It’s a shame because it feels like everyone is trying very...
Read moreA Disappointing Experience – Overrated Tourist Trap
I had high hopes for this restaurant, but unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences I’ve ever had. While the decor attempts to evoke an old French theme, it feels outdated and uninspired—much like the food and service.
The food was incredibly underwhelming for a place presenting itself as fine dining. The lobster bisque was essentially tasteless, watered-down broth, and the garlic bread—drenched in oil—was unpleasant and brought to our table even after we specifically requested not to have it. The lamb was passable but far from special. A fried piece of spaghetti on the plate seems to be their idea of sophistication, which speaks volumes about the overall experience.
The service was just as disappointing. The server, who seemed to be the owner, was visibly irritated when we ordered two main dishes for three people, despite ordering four appetizers. His attitude was rude and unprofessional, making the already lackluster experience even worse.
This restaurant is a tourist trap at best. There are far better options out there—please do yourself a favor and...
