La Cubanita — Restaurant in Almere

La Cubanita in Almere Centrum offers a fun dining concept in a lively location. The restaurant is styled with Cuban influences, which makes for a nice theme, although the interior felt a little bare at times, it seemed like some greenery or plants could have made the space warmer and more inviting. Also the lighting at our table (near the entrance) was harsh and not very cozy, which made the experience feel less atmospheric. With just a few tweaks to the ambiance, the restaurant could feel much more welcoming. The overall concept is great though, especially considering the value for money. For a small extra charge (€12,50), you can include drinks like wine, beer, and more, which makes it quite an affordable night out.

The staff were a real highlight of our visit! Very kind, friendly, and attentive. We felt well taken care of and the service was quick and smooth. The setting on Belfortplein is also appealing, surrounded by other restaurants right in the heart of the city.

As for the food: unfortunately, this was where the experience fell short. Many of the dishes didn’t taste particularly fresh. The salmon and meat, for example, were overcooked and lacked quality. While the variety is good and it’s fun to try many small bites, it’s not the place to go if you’re looking for refined flavors or high-quality ingredients. Also, despite the Cuban name, the tapas lean much more toward Spanish-style small dishes.

Overall, La Cubanita is a good option if you want a casual evening out, lots of food for a reasonable price, and you’re not too concerned about top-tier quality. With friendlier lighting and a bit more freshness in the dishes, it...

Was a Thursday night, small table for 4 people even we booked in advance, no space enough to put all food on it. We did ask Cabernet red wine bottle and the waiter took us white wine, Chardonnay instead. The waiter was not able to tell us which food they have available for people with allergies (milk, lactosie, eggs), which make us very surprised. When we asked for dessert, sorbet icecream was taken with wipecream on top after we asked it without due to the allergy. The bar bank table is dirty, with used glass left over there, so you cannot sit on the bar to have a cocktail. We took a cubalibre which was 90% coke and mostly ice, maybe 10% Havana. Price is just too elevate, you get only 2 tapas for 17,50 E. which is way too much. You can have proper dinner at the same price even on closeby restaurants. We were there couple of years ago and we had good memory of La Cubanita in Almere but after our last experience, we will rather not coming back...

Het eten ansich prima, niet speciaal en sommige dingen lekkerder dan andere. Bestellingen komen niet goed door vanuit de bestel "app". Wat er komt, komt redelijk snel. Drankjes ook prima, assortiment biertjes mag uitgebreider.

Richting einde avond (21.40 uur) werd ons gevraagd of we, als we nog een toetje willen, dat zsm te bestellen want de keuken gaat sluiten. Prima... We moeten nog 2 gerechtjes ontvangen en die komen prompt erna dan ook. Echter wel verbrande kip in spek, wat in combinatie met niet eens "geleverde" gerechtjes al een deukje erbij gaf.

Toetje bestellen, prima... Koffie d'r bij? Ja doe maar. Toetje komt... geen koffie... Eens vragen: Nee komt er aan. Nog geen koffie... Nog eens vragen... Uiteindelijk na 15 min wachten richting bar/kassa gelopen om af te rekenen. De jongen achter de bar die de drankjes aan het verzorgen was, had het erg gezellig met een andere collega en ze waren aan het smikkelen en smullen van iets. Waarop hij zegt "Oowja ik was ergens mee bezig, wat was het ook alweer.. ooohja koffie". Pakt de koffie die waarschijnlijk al even onder de automaat had gestaan en zet op dienblad om uit te serveren.. Te laat! Ik zeg tegen de dame met betalen dat ik de tafel wil betalen zonder de koffie die net op het dienblad is geploft. Bewering van de jongeman achter de bar (jammer dat ik je gesprek van zojuist meekreeg...) dat die heel laat doorkwam. Nee vriend, die kwam netjes op tijd maar jij hebt lopen lantefanteren.

De dame van het betalen gaf aan dat wij dan de volgende keer bij haar moeten melden; Sorry, maar je bent gekleed als elke andere serveerster en zien dan niet dat jij de floormanager (of hoe het heet bij Cuba) die bent die avond. Excuus gebruiken van allemaal nieuwe mensen die avond gaat niet op; de bediening liep hard en netjes, daar hebben wij niets op aan te merken.
