I am living on my own now for 10 years, with my Vietnamese origins and the food served at home, I miss that feeling when I stroll through the streets of Amsterdam. Now in 2023 that has changed and we see more and more Vietnamese restaurants or cafes. Now it's not the first time that I've been to Ô Mai, but every time I'm there it reminds me of the Phỏ that my mom cooks for our family at home. Although it is a thing in the Vietnamese culture that your mother's Phỏ is the best, Ô Mai's Phỏ is definitely not inferior to mom's. What I would recommend is just the Phở Bò Đặc Biệt, all the extra trimmings are just the right choice. For the salad I ordered a Bò tái chanh but the Goi Ngó Sen is also very tasty. The first one is a carpaccio like salad and the other is a similar to the Thai papaya salad but then Vietnamese ofcourse.
Interior: The owner has certainly thought about the design of his business, you see origami birds on the wall, which gives it a very cute look. The furniture is simple, but it gives you exactly the feeling you need with a warm bowl of Vietnamese soup.
Service: The service is very attentive, they are driven students who come to work and have a feeling for the product they serve. Very nice to see! My compliments!
Conclusion: This place is definitely recommended from me, I didn't mention the homemade iced tea but I would definitely recommend it! Unfortunately I was not able to take such nice pictures and that is often when I really enjoy the food because it is served super hot.
Thank you team Ô Mai, see...
Read moreHonestly, no faults with this place! My friend & I, neither of us either Dutch or Vietnamese, were wondering the streets looking for good food at a good price. We found the amazing O Mai merely by walking past. After less than 1 minute looking at their menu, we had decided & were greeted by the most pleasant woman working the floor there! I have visited Vietnam myself & this food really tastes like the real thing. At a great price you get such a large portion! We did not want any drinks & unlike other places in Amsterdam, the staff here did not seem upset or angry that we simply wanted the food & to save that little bit of money by drinking our own water. Furthermore, we visited during their anniversary week & therefore were offered these small bites on the house before our meal! I did asked what they were but have annoyingly forgotten. They did however, taste amazing & we knew then our food wold also be a great quality. Nothing to complain about at all. Would recommend to anybody in Amsterdam who loves Vietnamese food or wants to try it for the first...
Read moreWow. I’m not sure why isn’t this place prebooked months in advance and people are not queuing in front of doors. It has to be only because it’s somehow hidden and not shouting how amazing are they. I can’t explain it why but - I will do this service for them. I do like Thai food and have it several times a week. Now - without any question this is the place with the best Pho I ever had. It’s always good sign they bring you condiments with fresh herbs and lemon, but Thai was topped by pentagram of holy sauces. Show can start. You smell the souce when it’s not even on your table. All the right herbs and strong and bold soup.. ah. My heart is melting. I didn’t even took enough pictures to document it - I just jumped straight to it. I had a massive bad fresh summer rolls with options of three amazing sauces- no pre made staff that is just a starter- proper well made food. Overall I can’t recommend this place enough- I’m sure whene this become more apparent on Google Maps this place will be packed. I hope I will be able to make it here again soon. Well done...
