One of Jordaan's most iconic 'brown ' cafés, Het Bruine Paard, or the Brown Horse, is located on Prinsengracht, close to Noorder Kerk.
A magnificent plaque of a brown horse protrudes over the establishment's entrance and commemorates the occasion, over 125 years ago, when a horse and cart, from a fire station on the opposite side of the road, slipped on the bridge, crashing head on into the building.
