This is a very nice modern, clean aparthotel. The chap at the front desk when I arrived was very friendly and helpful. He even brought my bag up to my room for me, to save me having to lift it up the final set of stairs. I stayed in one of the cosy double rooms on the 5th floor. The view from the window was great! The interior design is very pleasing on the eye. The bed was super-comfy. There were 2 single duvets on the bed, though, rather than one double duvet, which was a bit weird and a full double duvet would have been more comfortable. |I also had a few hiccups. The afternoon I arrived I was very tired as I had been travelling for a day, and I wanted to take a nap in my room. That wasn't possible due to the noise. |First, a guy staying in the 5th floor room opposite mine was having really loud phone/video calls and I could hear every word. He was talking super-loud, so maybe the walls are not that thin, but it was impossible to sleep through!|Secondly, there was an extremely loud (regular) noise coming from a 'boxed over' area to the left of the bed as you lie down. I think it must be a water boiler. Anyway, it wasn't just a quiet murmer..it was 'wake you up loud'. I called downstairs about it and was told it was the elevator being fixed and should stop by 4pm. But the noises continued throughout the night, so I reckon there's maybe a water boiler situated somewhere near the room. |The street noises can also be heard, but those don't bother me.|Another unfortunate thing that happened was that the safe in the room would not lock. I was just on the point of leaving to go and meet up with clients for the evening when I discovered the faulty safe. I called downstairs and a chap came up immediately to try and fix it. He didn't say much (he didn't answer me when I asked if it was broken, or the like), but he did manage to fix it - it just required recharging. So he left his charger plugged into it, and I managed to leave and go out for the evening. All-in-all, I think if I stayed there again, I'd select a different type of room - away from the noise. It feels expensive for the experience I had, but Amsterdam is an expensive city. The location of Adam Suites was...
Read moreWe really enjoyed staying here. The hotel is a block away from the canal zone in a quiet neighborhood studded with lovely shops and cafes. Very walkable, even to the train station. (But we used an über when we had luggage as the roads are mostly cobblestone and brick.) It's an old building, as are most in Amsterdam. It is unique because they were allowed to put in a lift when they remodeled. Our room was on the 5th floor. We could take the lift up 4 then had to walk the last flight of circular stairs to our room. The room looked over the street and had a lovely view of the neighborhood. At about 4 pm, folks came out of the woodwork! Bikes, pedestrians and cars filled the streets and sidewalks. Cafes set up tables and chairs and everyone was outside enjoying the fall weather. Until 1 am. It was loud but a happy loud! Our room was nicely appointed - Q bed, desk with chair, electric water kettle, cups and glasses, mini fridge, safe, bedside tables and lamps. Very clean European styling but nothing fancy. Bathroom had a large shower, toilet and sink. Shampoo, hand wash, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hair dryer and steamer too. Towels were exchanged daily if you wanted the room tidied. Free coffee in the cafe downstairs. One weird thing though. There's no smoking in the building and one night apparently someone WAS smoking inside and set off the VERY LOUD smoke alarm. Almost 11 pm when many of us had already retired. So we all go stumbling down stairs and outside. There is NO ONE downstairs in the office or cafe. Apparently they check in the guests then leave at night. After 10 minutes a man rode up on a bike, unlocked the front door and started making calls. A fire truck rolled up, then drove right past us as if they had been told not to stop. The man was able to access the alarm panel and turn off the alarms. Then he claimed it was not smoke but a malfunction of the elevator. Totally false. It was a bit unnerving. 5 stars to the staff who checked us in, held our luggage until the room was ready , the cleaning...
Read moreA very unsatisfactory experience at this hotel. The room was unbelievably small. During check-in, the staff member didn’t even make sure I knew how to use the heater and quickly left — all staff leave by 4:00 PM. The lobby also closes, so what’s the point of having it if guests can’t relax or spend time there? There are no services at all, not even a phone to contact reception. The hotel is extremely basic, with poor staff responsiveness. I asked one staff member for help, but he ignored me completely, walked away, and left me waiting. My room key card stopped working, and they just gave me a regular key instead. The rooms are very cramped, and when I asked to change, they said I had to pay extra. The bed linens were very dirty, and there was no wardrobe or space to store luggage. No bathroom slippers or toothbrush provided. It feels more like a private dorm room than a hotel. I absolutely do not recommend...
