First off , we were one of the many people (through reading reviews , and at the actual venues ) who mistakenly bought tickets for the museum. It seems there are so many people however that this is happening to , that both venues should make this more clear especially to travelling tourists. I’m sure they will write me a nice note explaining how the website explains this , but my point being this keeps happening over and over and is the main reason it seems for the poor reviews. I do hope it gets fixed soon so this easily fixed repeating mistake does not continue.
Thats said , our family of 5 was still stoked to make it the 2 km away and in great spirits when the show began. And full disclosure , we walked out (not angrily ) after about 20 min, which in retrospect was 10 min too long. We did not know what we were seeing or why we were seeing it. We couldn’t understand what the narrator was saying at all (we were 82, 52, 45, 12 & 11 years old ) and the immersive visual experience and special effects were simply , not very special. My wife , an art history major had no interest in staying after 5 min. Perhaps not being able to hear really killed the rest of the experience. And again , I want to make clear - We were the only people who walked out (with no ill will ) so apparently everyone else was enjoying. Our family has been talking nonstop since , still trying to figure what it was and how anyone else would enjoy - but we’re very glad they did - it just wasn’t for us. We remain a bit bewildered :) hopefully the clarity of what show is what gets remedied soon and there’s no more “this wasn’t the...
Read moreWARNING! TOURISTS ARE BEING MISLED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH GOOGLE!
This is NOT the Van Gogh Museum. As you can see in the attached image, there’s a sponsored ticket link placed right below the official Van Gogh Museum website in Google search results. The website name doesn’t say “Van Gogh Museum,” but the design and placement are clearly deceptive.
My family and I bought 4 tickets months in advance, thinking they were for the Van Gogh Museum. When we arrived at the actual museum, we were shocked to learn the tickets were not valid there. Instead, they were for an event called “Van Gogh & Rembrandt in Amsterdam,” which turned out to be a projection show inside a church where paintings by Van Gogh and Rembrandt are displayed on the walls via video.
What’s truly upsetting is that Google is officially enabling this scam through its advertising. I cannot understand how Google is willing to be complicit in deceiving tourists just for a bit of ad revenue.
Because of this scam, I couldn’t keep my promise to my daughters and take them to the Van Gogh Museum. May the weight of that disappointment be on you, GOOGLE. Shame on you. You’re someone who sells your integrity for a few pennies. DISGRACEFUL.
Note: After realizing at the Van Gogh Museum that our tickets were invalid, we rushed to the other venue by Uber. We had already missed our showtime, but the staff at the door were helpful and allowed us to join the next session in another language. I want to thank them for...
Read moreThis was a highly educational experience in a church we’re both Rembrandt and van Gogh attended though not simultaneously. I learned a great deal as to how significantly van Gogh was influenced by Rembrandt. They read letters written to his brother Theo. One line I will never forget is that he said that he would give 10 years of his life to spend two weeks looking at the face of one of the women in one of Rembrandt’s paintings. this was not your typical immersion experience we are at the lights flashed across the floor and all surfaces. But the church walls and voltage ceiling as well as columns and pipe organ provided a beautiful environment for this. If you’re in the mood for visual thrills, this is not it. If you’re in the mood for an in-depth illustrated experience, I highly recommend this. Also, special shout out to Bruno and all of the attendants. They were able to get me into the next available timeslot with my timed ticket even though I entered a time, mistakenly, that I could not attend. No questions asked. A wonderful experience all around. And one comment I have left is to make sure you get your tickets online in advance. It can sell out...
