If you’re looking for a spot that combines a relaxed vibe with a splash of luxe modernity and a hint of classic Amsterdam marble, Cafe Wildschut has you covered. Picture this: beatnik tunes setting the mood, spacious tables inside and out, and a drink menu so expansive it could use its own GPS. The service here is as friendly as a golden retriever, and the menu is a globe-trotter’s dream. From breakfast and Italian to Turkish, you’ve got sandwiches, burgers, salads, and snacks galore—think risotto, sausages, spring rolls, shrimp croquettes, and more. It’s a great place for a group hangout or a solo coffee break (or glass of wine—don’t judge). Be warned, the coffee and apple pie disappear faster than you can say “I’m hungry!” Try the salad with warm goat cheese or the spinach and goat cheese omelette for a win. Or go all out with a waffle topped with melted cheese, bacon, and egg—a delicious ordeal you won’t soon forget. And don’t be silly, get the apple pie with cream - it’s epically delicious:)

We walked in, no reservation, but no problem being seated. We got our drinks in a timely enough manner, after that, spotting help on a desert island was easier than spotting our server. I have to say the half a steak was perfectly cooked, fries were greasy. Wife had shrimp croquettes, which might, or might not have been shrimp. The word “ghastly” comes into play. Finished up and escaped. 6/23/25 update after only 14 months, the owner responded. He invited us to give them another try.

We absolutely loved this Café, in fact, we loved it so much that we came back the day after we firstly found it. Great vibe, very relaxed people (customers) and lovely, friendly stuff (thank you to the young guy who gave us the directions for the tram and then the train to Utrecht). And, last but certainly not least, amazing coffee (Italian) and delicious food. We will come back!

Café Wildschut is located on the bend where Van Baerlestraat turns into Roelof Hartplein, in a beautiful southern part of the city.

Beautiful hybrid art deco interior with plenty of space to relax and have a drink or tuck into a great menu.

For me, this has a busy local feel with lots of people from the neighbourhood drinking decent beer or wine and chatting away in Dutch. We booked a table for 8 pm and felt a little foolish as the place was pretty quiet but it only took another 30 mins for the place to fill up. Booking recommended.

Try the mini veal croquettes or the spring rolls as a snack or go for on of the awesome Wildschut organic burgers.

We drank Afligem Dubel(draught) and a really great Prosecco.

impeccably friendly and fast service. Not the usual pressure in busy places to turn the table around.

I thought this was a great choice for a casual Tuesday night dinner. Will definitely be back for more the next time I'm...
