Cannibale Royale Ruysdael — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Would give 0 stars if I could, ruined our night. Never have I ever experienced such rudeness and felt so unwelcome from the start. Mentioned it was a birthday celebration, got offered the worst table by the entrance. Restaurant was nearly empty at 5:30pm - so there were many tables to choose from. Asked for a table upstairs instead, quickly the floor manager came up to say “you can’t sit at this table it’s for 3 people”. There were 2 chairs, and it was the same size as the table we picked. Needless to say they sat 2 people at that table one hour later… Also there were multiple larger tables only occupied by a few people, so his explanation was ridiculous. When questioned, the floor manager started acting extremely unprofessional - saying they “already helped us get a better table” (how generous) and that I should be thankful he “didn’t kick us out” when I was “giving attitude”. Seriously?! How appaling, lacking basic customer service skills! Left feeling humiliated. Note regarding food: the ribs (their specialty) were super dry so the other reviews are spot on. Both the food & service went downhill massively. Therefore, not recommended. Definitely won’t be coming back! What a disgrace. Edit: thanks for your reply, but my “rude” comment was never directed at the floor manager actually but the situation/table that was offered. Didn’t insult anyone personally, it was merely frustration at the situation. Rest of the staff were polite so that was reciprocated, I also don’t appreciate being lectured. The same comment could have been made more politely instead of “you can’t sit there”, it was a demeaning and unprofessional tone right from the start. Attitude...

Food was great as usual, unfortunately service was not. One of the waiter (he claims that he‘s a famous DJ but we highly doubt it lol) was extremely racist and was giving us attitude since the moment we entered the door. He first ignored our signs of ordering at least 3 times, and when food arrived he just placed everything on the table without giving us plates and cutleries. We had to ask him 2 times for fork and knives. Later when we check the bill we want to split it, this is such a common thing in NL, he rejected us and said this is the law. I told him that we are local and we know the law, he then changed his words and told us “this is the house rule from now on.” I told him I want to talk to the manager. He said “I'm the manager.”（He’s not the manager）The manager was nice and helpful, he was a real gentleman and he did his best to solve the problem. Unfortunately, again, when my friend was taking a photo of the restaurant environment, he jumped out from the bar and yelled to my friend “delete your photo！” and then he walked out with us and threatend us “If you don't delete the picture I will throw your phone inside the river”. How crazy！We always visit cannibale royale, we’ve been to all the locations since years ago, we celebrate all the important occasions here, this is the first time we got treated like this, and I don't think we will come back anymore. We still recommend the food the steak and everything, but for the service and racism we received today, we are just extremely disappointed and don't wanna come...

The place is always full so I advise you to reserve prior to going here.

I went with 2 friends, we had reserved but got seated on a table that had a petrol smell to it as they had just freshly painted it. After saying we would like to move we got sat on a table which was meant for 2 people, so felt rather cramped. Not very professional.

It took a while till we got our menus, but once we placed our orders, service was efficient.

My steak was cooked as i had ordered it. It was pretty tender but had some chewy bits to it unfortunately. The salad side was ok but lacked some proper dressing.

My friends ribs were outstanding, meat was so tender it fell of the bone. Taste was great. He ordered some fries with it, which were not too greasy.

My other friend had a salad that contained anchovies. She specifically said she wanted them on the side (for me as she does not like them) but they were in the salad which made it a challenge for her to eat it without the fear of eating an anchovy. She also ordered a ‘mac n cheese’ side which actually contained a lot of cheese and tasted delightful (not light at a though).

We had 2 glasses of wine each, they have a good selection of wines.

In total we paid 85€ - which is not that much but also not cheap. Overall satisfied but we would expect them to treat their customers with a bit more respect and not place them on a 2 people table if they had plenty of 4 people tables...
