This is 3rd time I ate ramen soup at such a restaurant, and first time at this particular place.
Environment: There was a queue outside, people waiting to get in. I highly recommend to get a reservation if you want to eat here. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes before a group can get in.
The place is really small. There are mostly seats at a 'bar' and a few tables. There are enough seats for 40 to 50 in the whole restaurant. Ideally a good place for 1 or 2 people. Up to 4 or 5 for a table. I don't recommend more than 5.
The place isn't well ventilated. Make sure you don't wear too much, it gets really warm. Also your clothing will smell a bit oily.
Staff: They didn't greet me with a big smile, but they did their job. It was really crowded and they were busy a lot, so it's a bit understandable. They speak English and Dutch fluently and some can even speak Japanese. No real complaint about the staff.
Food: I ordered a Miso Char Siu ramen soup. The presentation was good. It took quite some time before it arrived. Depending what you order, expect to take 10 to 15 minutes before your food arrives. The soup was a bit on the oily side, so that's something to consider.
The issue I had was that my soup was too salty for me. I love salt, but this was a bit too much for me. I don't know if it was this one time, or if it is usually this salty. It's the first time I couldn't even drink the broth. Other than that, the rest of the...
Read moreHonestly one of the best ramnes that i had in Amsterdam. I visited the place for a long time, but im not going to come back after my last dinner. Waiting outside of course is a normal thing as always i joined a list and patiently waited for the staff to call my name. Now they forgot us outside, and as i see them seating down an other just walked in table i walk inside and i ask the host. Her answer is she did not seated down it was her collega. All fine still waiting outside. Now the girl walks out calls my name, and she tells me she did not saw us earlier which is impossible.. and i also tell her we were outside the whole time, maybe she shoulf have asked for the name. Now she says nothing we walk away and aftwr my back(!) She push thw sentence, well you should have said something... Excuse me if i politely wait outside and assume that the hosting staff know what they are doing and im in right hands and i dont have to continuously remind them that i want to sit down as there are many other people waiting... Honestly everything would have been fine if the lovely lady does not bark that sentence after you. Thank you for your tasty ramen but will not...
Read moreThe ramen at Sapporo Ramen in Amsterdam is really good and authentic. While it’s a bit on the expensive side, you definitely get your money’s worth with the generous portions.
We ordered a ramen with chashu and karaage, and both were exceptional. The chashu was perfectly fatty and full of flavor, while the karaage was crispy and flavorful on its own, and after soaking in the ramen for a while, it turned deliciously juicy.
The noodles were also very tasty. I’m not sure if they’re handmade or not, but they were definitely delicious and worked good with the broth. The amount of greens was a bit too much for my liking but I know many people like it that way. That said, the carrots in the mix were a great addition and added a nice balance to the dish.
The beers were also a highlight, served in ice-cold glasses, which is something I always appreciate.
Finally, the staff at Sapporo Ramen were incredibly welcoming and friendly. You can see how much they care about their restaurant, and that made the experience even better. I’ll definitely be visiting this establishment again...
