My family and I found this place on accident on our most recent trip to Amsterdam! We happened to see someone with an Onigiri YA! paper bag, so we looked it up and found it. We’re from Hawaii, and we were away from home for quite a while and craving some rice! Onigiri YA! is inside Japan Market, a small shop that has all kinds of Japanese and Asian products, but we were there for the onigiri! Each of us got 2 onigiri, and we tried a variety of flavors. I got an ume one and a salmon one. The rice was so good and the fillings were tasty and generous! Rice craving: satisfied! Side note: I was really tempted to buy the onigiri called ā€œWasabi & Cryā€ but I’m not good with spice hahaha

It was by accident that my girlfriend and I found this store. It reminded me of how the small japanese 24h convenient stores were in Japan. Except this one isn’t open for 24 hours. The Onigiri’s were very fresh, if you touch it you have to buy it! I think that is a very nice policy for everyone. We have bought a spicy tuna onigiri and one with tempura shrimp, really tasty and made with love. The drinks were a banana milk and a Bikkle, taste like Yakult. We were very satisfied, and the staff was very courteous. Cute store to grab a quick snack and just eat it casually around the corner or on a bench. Thankyou Onigiri Ya!

The staff is super friendly and helpful! Love their ā€œruleā€ to only touch the food you want to buy (since they are rice balls and can lose their triangular shape when many people hold/ touch them). The flavors and the rice formation could both be a bit stronger in my humble opinion. The most popular flavors are Salmon and Tuna Mayo, but they also have vegan flavors which are delicious too. They also have hot miso soup for takeaway as well. We bought from here twice since it’s perfect as a takeaway meal that’s easy to eat and it’s rather affordable.

UPDATE 7 MONTHS LATER (July 2021): The customer service has changed tremendously since I’ve been back for the past three weeks. It seems like the owner, not sure though but most likely, a friendly Japanese man who is very customer friendly as well and cares about his customers. I’m glad I gave this another try, positive change now that he’s there and the quality of the nigiri is better now than before.

Review February 2021 (2 stars): I’ve been here twice on a Saturday around 12 pm. The lady that’s been there the past 2 times is more concerned about washing the dishes than coming out to the register and letting me pay. She really doesn’t want to be there to come out and help the customer that’s for sure. I mean why wash the dishes right after opening instead of being customer friendly. The onigiri’s are too rice-heavy (not enough filling) and the filling of salmon was vert dry. The rice was also wet and salty. Won’t be coming back soon and I hope for other customers to get...

Make sure to check the expiration dates on the stuff they sell. I once got a package of instant noodles (5 bags inside), and when I returned home I realized that they would expire in a day. There was no way I was going to finish all those bags in a day. The package was not on discount, and usually these instant noodles last quite long, so I assumed they would stay long in my shelf.

The other day I got a package of inari-zushi wraps, and after coming back home I realized there was no expiration date written on the package. I wanted to give them to my toddler as well, so I wanted to make sure they were still okay. I went back and asked, to which they replied that there is no expiration date listed because there isn't any. I mean, how can packaged food not have an expiration date? I was quite suspicious of their answer, but that's all they gave me so I left.

So yeah, be mindful of the expiration dates if you're buying packaged food...
