🌟 One Star for Effort: A Lamb Saga Gone Wrong 🌟
Last night, two brave friends and I ventured into a restaurant in Amsterdam with high hopes and empty stomachs. What we left with was a deep existential crisis — and the lingering aftertaste of what might’ve been lamb… or perhaps sadness.
Let me walk you through the culinary fever dream:
We started with warm beer, which I assume was meant to “challenge the palate” — mission accomplished. I’ve had tea colder than that Stella Artois.
Then came the food. Or, as I now call it: Refrigerated Regret.
We ordered the Gnocchi with Egg Yolk & Chanterelles to share, and honestly, it was hard to tell if it had been cooked or just strongly encouraged to warm up. 12 Gnocchies!!!! Luke warm!!!! Texture-wise, think: slightly thawed erasers with a hint of fungus. A true al dente horror show.
But the pièce de résistance — the star of our shared trauma — was the Lamb rack with Lamb Jus & Potato Mousseline. I don’t know where they found this lamb, but it must have died angry. It was chewy, and somehow cold. The “potato mousseline” tasted like it had last seen heat during the Obama administration. Artificial in taste.
We triple-checked the menu to confirm it actually said Lamb. Spelled L-A-M-B. What we got could’ve easily been a wool sweater from a haunted thrift store.
Dessert? We didn’t dare. We fled, emotionally broken, spiritually hungry, and physically still kind of chewing.
In summary: If you enjoy ironic dining, lukewarm liquids, and meats that fight back — this is your spot. Otherwise, maybe just eat the menu. Service was friendly! Price was a total overpay. Actually I left...
Read moreHad a very disappointing dinner here with 3 other friends yesterday. When I asked for some help choosing a bottle of wine, the waiter suggested a €70 bottle, which I asked to try first. He seemed annoyed about this inconvenience and even more annoyed when I expressed I wasn’t sure about the wine as I found it a little sweet. Instead of being helpful and courteous, he proceeded to arrogantly tell me about his training in hospitality and wine, and basically that I was wrong. Every one at the table was pretty shocked by his attitude and it set the tone for a pretty uncomfortable evening. The evening then sadly got worse, when 3 of us ordered the bisque starter. It was served freezing cold but due to already being made to feel very uncomfortable by our waiter, we ate it and quietly asked a different (very nice waiter) if it was supposed to be cold, who confirmed it wasn’t. They did offer a few nice gestures to make it up to us (offering a free middle course for us to share between us, and putting a langoustine on our sea bass) but this didn’t really come close to salvaging the evening. We spent almost €100 per person, so were incredibly...
Read moreAn absolute gem! I happened to see this restaurant while out and about and knew I wanted to come back. It did not disappoint! Truly a great evening - simple food, but perfectly executed and amazing wine. The pris fixe menu was very reasonable and every dish was delicious. I can understand how some guests might feel overlooked - there was only one server for the whole restaurant and while it was small he was quite busy the whole evening. A simple wave or eye contact made sure we had everything we needed, however. I think the addition of another sever as business picks up would iron out any service issues and make for a perfect evening. (And they do gluten free/allergy...
