A gem. It's difficult to find a conventional breakfast place with good portions and prices in Amsterdam. Oh, there are upscale places where avocado toast is an art form, and delicious. Deze zijn ook goed.

But, you know, sometimes we get nostalgic for a classic un-gentrified little cafe. We stumbled on this one. Want something a bit off-menu? Rashid will make it for you, "no problem". And it'll be terrific.

He's been here for 14 years. The cafe has been here for 40. He's changed nothing, from the tables to the tiles, it's all original.

We were in Amsterdam looking for a place to eat early on a Sunday morning before our visit to the Anne Frank House. Vennington was the only cafe open anywhere before 9:00 AM. Mr. Vennington could not have been a more gracious host. We thought the prices were comparable to just about everything else in the area, and truly, you cannot beat being "open" when no one else has woken up! We loved the fresh squeezed OJ. Thank you Mr....
