Don Burrito - Mexicaans Afhaalrestaurant in Amsterdam. — Restaurant in Amsterdam

As it's close to my house on the way back from the park I thought to check out the buritto place even though I have frozen vegan 🌯 burritos at home from AH.

The menu starts with beef and chicken than a vegan option.

Im mostly vegan for many years so I order it assuming that at almost the same price as the other options if it's called a vegan 🌯 burrito, it probably contains some beef or chicken substitute of some sorts. As these are common and plentiful these days.

Unfortunately I was unpleasantly surprised. like many years ago before the vegan revolution, when places had audacity to just remove meat from the dishes and charge almost full price and call it vegan, this was the same old infuriating story that I thought had past long ago from the world.

If they add a meat substitute, I will revise my review. Till than if you just remove the beef or chicken and not replace it to actually make a proper vegan 🌯 burrito, make that clear and also don't charge as much.

Sorry but I agree with the below. This is a very Dutch interpretation of Mexican or TexMex. The chicken was not very flavorful, and was weirdly extremely spicy (not very Dutch), which meant my son couldn't eat it. Reminded me more of spicy Suriname chicken broodjes. Only one option for chicken. The "sauces" were not tasty at all or home made, one was literally the basic AH cooked salsa you get for 1.99 a jar! That has no place at a burrito place like this. Most of the toppings had no or barely any seasoning, like the rice, beans, etc etc.

You can do much better making it yourself at home (La Morena at AH is higher quality) or going a few doors down to Tomatillo. To the owner, I suggest you find a few of the literal thousands of highly rated American TexMex restaurant menus online and try to imitate that, rather than what you know as Mexican from living in NL. This is like an AH/Santa Maria burrito cooked by your Dutch Aunt who's never left Den Haag in her life. Boring...

We dropped into this restaurant because they had signs outside advertising vegan options. Unfortunately, we found those options to be pretty boring and bland. It's essentially just a black bean burrito with rice, raw vegetables, and some salsa. They told us they were all out of vegan cheese then replenished it as soon as they had finished preparing our burritos (would that have happened with regular cheese?). We paid extra for guac, but they put barely any of it on our burritos.

The tortilla was fresh and the salsa was good. It's cool that they grill the burritos, but that didn't add much flavor or texture to ours especially considering they had no cheese.

In a vegan mecca like Amsterdam, we expected a little more effort - maybe some veg beef or chicken, grilled/seasoned veggies or mushrooms, some vegan sour cream, etc. It'd be easy to make vegan options great instead of just an...
