Kanteen25 — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I really wanted to like this place but I was a bit disappointed to be honest. It looks sooo nice. Inside is amazing. Super spacious and great design. It’s really well done. Long bar. Open kitchen. Plenty of place to sit or dine.

The best part is, they were allowed to have an extra terrace in the yard near the waterfront. This is amazing. A beautiful view on the water. Boats passing by. An amazing sunset behind Nemo lighting up the silhouette of Central Station.

Unfortunately we took pizza. And this is not a pizza place. It was a bit dry, and simply just did not have that much flavor. I’m quite sure I’m spoiled with some of the best pizza places of the country here in Amsterdam, but this sure was underwhelming and below average. I really tried.

They have some nice vegan options as well. Including... vegan chocolate cake. It just called my name when I saw it on someone else’s plate. But... although it’s good size and the chocolate crème between the layers was delicious, the cake itself just was a bit dry. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that. But for me this was the second disappointment.

They were quite understaffed as well on this sunny Sunday afternoon. The only waitress outside did not really look after any of the tables. But hey, let’s not go into that. When we finally talked to them after trying to find someone inside they were super friendly. All of them. We actually had some great conversations with them.

Anyway, to conclude, I don’t think I will try again anytime soon. Although I probably should, judging from the crazy high rating. Maybe we were unlucky. Or maybe we should have kept it to drinks or any of the other more special dishes.

Just chilling out on the pillows or tables under the trees in the Marine area is a great experience by itself as well. So try...

I have been coming to Kanteen25 since they opened, and it is quickly becoming one of my favorite places in Amsterdam! Kanteen has a very relaxed vibe, making anyone feel welcome. Their staff is always friendly and helpful, the chefs say hi and tell about the food when they can, and there is plenty of different seating choices. From comfy couches with a great view to practical dining seating inside and outside, to a comfy couch next to the pool table and Foosball table in the basement!

And of course I can't gloss over their food! They have varied meals every day, besides a selection of dishes that are more reliably available, like their pizza, sandwiches and salads. Their pizza is the best I've tasted in Amsterdam, being completely fresh, and baked in a proper stone pizza oven.

Besides great meals, they also have a true Parisian pastry chef, who makes amazing croissants and other pastries, all completely fresh as well!

To complete it all, they have a nice selection of drinks. From the obvious fresh coffee and tea, to local beers and fresh soda and juices. My only word of warning is here though, as they do not (currently) have the more regular choices of soda like Coca Cola, Fanta, etc, and the prices for soft drinks are a little on the high side. This should not stop you from going to Kanteen as everything else more than compensates this, but it is good to be aware.
