Maharaj Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Went here because we had a couple of hours in between appointments and needed to eat - the food was amazing!! It looked, smelled and tasted great. The rice was perfect, the naan bread was fresh and so garlicky and good, and the two dishes we had were awesome, good flavour and the right amount of heat for those dishes. A good amount of meat in the main dishes, and not too oily either. Good portion sizes. The decor was lovely, the restaurant is small and from the side looking in we thought it was a different place entirely - but we were so glad we went! We also got some cake, and it was some of the best cake I've had in my life. And I'm from the UK and I've had many many cakes, so that's saying something! They don't sell alcohol, if that's your thing.

The owner is lovely, we were chatting to him because it was a quiet time, early in the evening on a weekday.

Me and group of our friends wanted to eat hearty Indian meal and we came across Maharaj Restaurant and fantastic reviews on Google! So we decided to drop by and it was definitely a very good decision and worth the trip! I was with my toddler and the restaurant owners readily agreed to warm my baby food and that just made us feel home :) Coming to the food served. We ordered 2 vegetarian mains and 1 chicken main gravy. The quality and quantity was amazing! The naan was ultra soft and the main gravies were served with side of rice and complimentary Naans! The owner is a very sweet gentleman and was extremely gracious when we asked if Lassi is available or on the menu 😍and we were told yes it is! We had the chicken samosas which was really good - well spiced with a hint of heat, and it was so warm and crispy still. Would definitely order this again.

We also had naan which was fresh and tasty. The main meal was the butter chicken - the menu said it was sweet but this was way too sweet for me and lacked some flavourful spice in my opinion. Someone that is sensitive for spice and enjoys sweet dishes will really like this. It was creamy and rich, just not to my personal taste.
