Mangia Pizza Cucina & Pizzeria di Antonio Cavoto — Restaurant in Amsterdam

Mangia pizza used to be my favorite pizzeria in town till tonight. Had an absolutely terrible experience tonight.

We made reservations via Google 45 min ago - because slots were available. On getting there we were told to wait for 10 min. After 10 min another server brusquely told us it would be 35 min and why did we reserve so late. Please fix your reservation system if you don’t want to admit customers instead of blaming them. All forgiven, we were finally ushered into their Pasta Bar next door.

First we get a menu for pizza, we request if we can see the pasta menu as well. On enquiry, we’re told we can either order pizza or pasta. Given it was busy, we understood. The server came 10 min later, we place our order and he says 1 hr for pizza. Would’ve appreciated being told earlier, but we go for pasta and an appetizer.

They took the order incorrectly, got one with mortadella and then on being pointed out, we get the same dish minus the mortadella. All cold.

Then comes the pasta, mine was a tagliatelle with mushrooms - so cold that the mushrooms had started to form a gelatinous layer on top, it almost looked bad and further not seasoned at all. Even the shaved truffles could rescue the pasta

Extremely disappointing experience, and will not be coming back again. Mangia pizza is the only pizzeria I would go to order from, they’ve lost a...

The staff was very friendly and the ambiance in the restaurant is very nice.

However, the pasta itself was quite disappointing. We ordered some bread to start, the lemon pasta and the pasta with gamba’s. First of all, the bread was quite stale, but the olive oil was nice (but not amazing). The portion size of the pasta was quite small. Which is okay, if the dish itself is extraordinary.

But, unfortunately it wasn’t. The pasta with gamba’s had 5 small Dutch shrimps (not gamba’s) and was cooked, slightly, past al dente. The lemon pasta lacked the bright notes of lemon (I couldn’t even find any lemon zest) and the sauce was completely broken. Instead of a creamy emulsified sauce we ended up with overcooked pasta, stringy blobs of cheese, oil and lemon juice.

In conclusion the quality of the dishes do not meet the price. Honestly I could’ve made a better pasta myself. The kitchen of this new restaurant...

The pasta is really good, but the service is even better! We loved our waitress who answered all our questions and gave us suggestions ❤️🍝

EDIT: My previous review was for 5 stars, but after my last experience I had to come back and give 1 star. I got a carbonara to go and they literally gave me 24 pieces of pasta, with the worst tasting sauce, it tasted like it was out of date and not to mention the tiny tiny portion, which you can see also compared to my photo eating at the restaurant from a year ago, it is literally almost half the amount of food. When they handed me the box to go it was covered and I thought it was accidentally empty bc it was so light. When I asked is this the food? They said yes. I opened the box and I saw the tiny portion and I said this is the portion? They said yes this is one portion. And I had to pay 19€ for this?...
