Mangia pizza used to be my favorite pizzeria in town till tonight. Had an absolutely terrible experience tonight.
We made reservations via Google 45 min ago - because slots were available. On getting there we were told to wait for 10 min. After 10 min another server brusquely told us it would be 35 min and why did we reserve so late. Why blame customers if you can’t fix your reservation system. All forgiven, we were finally ushered into their Pasta Bar next door.
First we get a menu for pizza, we request if we can see the pasta menu as well. On enquiry, we’re told we can either order pizza or pasta. Given it was busy, we understood. The server came 10 min later, we place our order and he says 1 hr for pizza. Would’ve appreciated being told earlier, but we go for pasta and an appetizer.
They took the order incorrectly, got one with mortadella and then on being pointed out, we get the same dish minus the mortadella. All cold.
Then comes the pasta, mine was a tagliatelle with mushrooms - so cold that the mushrooms had started to form a gelatinous layer on top, it almost looked bad and further not seasoned at all. Even the shaved black truffles (which had lost all flavor) couldn’t save the pasta.
Extremely disappointing experience, and will not be coming back again. Mangia pizza is the only pizzeria I would go to order from, they’ve lost a...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I dropped by Mangia Pizza on a Wednesday while we were visiting Amsterdam. We saw the 4.5 star rating on trip advisor so we went there to see if it held up to that rating. Upon arriving there were no guests but we went for it anyway and asked if they'd be able to cater to vegans (without cheese). They said it was no problem at all and we quickly sat down. Both waitresses were very friendly and helped us right away since the restaurant was empty. They went further then expected with catering to vegans: they allowed us to switch meat, cheese toppings with veggie toppings without any extra cost which is something we don't get that often in European restaurants. They also brought my girlfriend a glass of tap water free of charge because she didn't want any special drink, again something unusual in Europe. The pizzas came fairly quickly and they were great: thin crusts, crunchy and a good amount of toppings without it being soggy from the grease. When we received the bill, the pricing was very fair for the delicious meal we got and definitely for Amsterdam standards. Lastly, the bathrooms were very clean. We would definitely recommend to stop by this pizza place if you're ever in the area. It lives up to its name and the TripAdvisor reputation is definitely...
Read moreThe pizzeria has potential - the food itself was very good. BUT there were several problems that made our experience unpleasant. First of all, we had to wait about 45 minutes before even getting any water and service. The waitresses didn't seem care about us at all. The table was dirty. We ordered a bottle of wine and instead got glasses (of the wrong wine too) and had to wait again for that to be fixed. And one of the wine glasses had cork in it. I know it's not anyone's fault particularly, but the front door broke down and people were locked in for a little while causing a lot hassle and discomfort for the customers. Also, one of the bathrooms was leaking. After finishing our pizzas, we asked for the menu to see if we'd want some desert, but after a long time another waitress came to take the menus away and didn't ask us if we wanted anything. By that time we were done with the place and left. At the end there was a waitress asking us how our experience was and she was very friendly and polite. The restaurant has a lot of potentional as said before, but there is a lot to...
