Ponte arcari — Restaurant in Amsterdam

We tried this restaurant twice. It is on the corner of our house.

First time, it was completely full, so we were asked to wait outside for the table. We waited for approx. 30 minutes (the weather was nice to wait outside) and when one table became free, they put another family that just arrived (btw. they also did not have a reservation). The explanation of the waiter (in very poor English with Italian accent) was as follows "Breathe...the table will come". Of course we left immediately without intention to go back.

After a year, we decided to try again. We got in this time. The food was ok but nothing extraordinary. The service however proved again that it is below any standards: they make obscure jokes without any sense they are rude/mean and offensive when we asked for the tab water (to accompany our wine) we were told they do not serve it so we asked for bottled water instead. When we were at the end of our dinner, we saw them serving tab water to another table. We asked politely why we are treated differently and the waiter got offended and aggressive saying he does not discriminate anyone. We let it go. the owner/manager, after seeing what happened, behaved nicely and took the water out of the bill, so we decided to give the tip when leaving however we were treated very rude by the same waiter that served us the bottled water

All in all, a very disappointing experience that we do not recommend to anyone. You can eat good food in another places and the service and atmosphere the waiters create makes this place just shameful.

I visited this restaurant two times. The first time the food was very good, the service was great and i enjoyed the time spend there. Unfortunately the waiter did try to flirt with me and my friend, which was a little weird. The second time it was a disaster. I had another waiter and another chefkok. The waiter seemed to have favorites. So did two girls receive a free tiramisu dessert on the house, a couple received extra dishes with their appetizers and he laughed and made jokes with all the other costumers. Somehow our service took the longest. It took an hour to wait for our dish and it seemed like he forgotten is since he passed by and said he forgot. Took another half an hour for him to serve the plates. They were disappointingly small and had barely any salmon. The taste wasn’t special or interesting. After the meal we both were not satisfied. When asked about the desserts, it took another half an hour for the waiter to come because he was busy socializing with his other costumers. Absolutely fantastic food and atmosphere! My friends and I were lucky to have nice enough weather to sit on the lone outdoor table. We ordered the venison ragu, lobster ravioli, chicken pesto, steak and mussels to start (plenty of wine). Every dish was exceptional; fresh, delicious, and expertly made. I don’t think there is a wrong option on the menu. Definitely consider the specials, they know what they are talking about. Highest regards to the chef Alessio and owner Alex who made the experience unforgettable. We had a chance to talk to them as we finished our meal and they entertained with lively conversation and stories. Two top gentleman and fascinating characters, who run a world class restaurant with excellent food. We are headed back to Canada tomorrow and we couldn’t have ended on a better note. Please do yourself a favour and experience this restaurant. Not for the faint of heart however. Only come here if you are prepared to enjoy...
