Average food and rude waiters (please, do yourself a favour and go to Little Thai Prince a few meters away - a far superior place). First, after half an hour they finally brought my food and gave it to some other people at the next table screaming at me when I mentioned that to them. Then, after 5min, they realized the mistake and took away the food from them and threw on my plate (sorry for those people too). With a lot of arguments and shouting at me. They also take no common payments that 99% of places in Amsterdam do (I only had a problem once in the market) - and they don't bother to mention that at any moment. Probably avoiding taxes and doing some scammy businesses inside. After a lot of annoyance and arguments throughout the dinner, I've told the waiter about my negative experience and he started shouting at me - even when I was walking away, kept screaming some things. This is unacceptable - be prepared to call police when visiting their spot. Additionally, they call themselves "snackbar" and justify everything with saying "we've been here for 50 years" as if somebody cared - people change, if you behave the way you do now, you'll quickly be out of business. The food had restaurant prices, portions and waiting times - so not sure why they call it a snackbar? I guess the only reason are dirty tables and interior. In terms of the taste, I had much better thai food on the same street so all the good reviews about the taste are probably from people who rarely eat Thai food and haven't had authentic stuff. For sure never visiting again and I hope more people see this place for what they are - a bunch of rude people not caring about the customer or the food. I see more negative reviews coming recently here so it's already happening. Good luck staying...
Read moreThe ambience is really cool and has that snack shop vibe. Service is fast and friendly, but didn't notice half our order didn't arrive, when we told them they apologized, brought one item but forgot the other but put everything on the bill! I had the pad thai jay, which cost 14,50. As a real pad thai was 19€. At their restaurant across the street it was 22€! That's just outrageously expensive for pad thai! In my small, university hometown, at a fancy Thai restaurant, you get very good pad thai for 26€ and it's the joke of the town that it's this ridiculously expensive for fried noodles with prawns. Amsterdam is next level. This street shop sells pad thai almost as expensive if you eat the exact same meal in the restaurant, and it's not even good. The pad thai jay was very sweet, almost sugary. No umami, no sesame, no spring onion or crunchy veggies. Just sweet, soggy noodles with tofu and one forlorn piece of spring onion. My partner had fried rice with prawns that also was very sweet and tasted of nothing. The spring rolls were just cheap store bought, 8 pieces for about 6,50€. And we were charged for a satay we never received. Plus they really tried to hurry us from the shop after we finished our last bite. The plates were cleared immediately, the table wiped and the bill presented. Only two people were waiting to be seated, there was practically no line. But we were still hurried out. Also they create an artificially long line as to make the shop seem desirable. Take away and sit down patrons wait in the same, very long (on the...
Read morehad an extremely unpleasant dining experience at this restaurant. Apart from the poor quality control, the owner's attitude was disappointing. As an Asian student touring Amsterdam, I chose this well-rated restaurant. However, when I was halfway through my meal, I discovered a small insect carcass in the soup, making me feel the food was unhygienic. When I showed it to the owner, his initial response was to deflect blame, suggesting it might have flown in from outside. He said, "It happened, what can I do?" This confusing and shocking statement showed a lack of responsibility.
I expressed my disgust and requested compensation, but the owner responded disdainfully. He questioned, "How can they control (no insects in the dishes)?" Isn't ensuring clean food a basic requirement for a restaurant? The situation escalated, and fearing retaliation, we decided to pay and leave. The owner's solution was to deduct the cost of the soup, coupled with an unwelcoming remark, hoping to never see us again. Given the food quality and service attitude, why would we return?
In conclusion, I do not recommend anyone dine at this restaurant. I have reason to suspect that due to our identity as Asian tourists, the owner responded with an extremely disrespectful attitude, perhaps assuming we wouldn't have the time or energy to dispute. Unjust treatment like this could happen to anyone, and this experience left me feeling both aggrieved and outraged. I hope the restaurant acknowledges...
