A True Gem in Amsterdam: Outstanding Food and Service at Guasto Guasto Italian Restaurant in Amsterdam completely exceeded our expectations. From the moment we walked in, the staff made us feel like we were their top priority. The level of service was exceptional—warm, attentive, and professional. They genuinely made us feel like VIPs, offering personalized recommendations and ensuring we were comfortable throughout our meal. The food was nothing short of spectacular. Every dish was a masterpiece, bursting with fresh, authentic flavors. The pastas were perfectly cooked, and the pizzas were crispy, delicious, and topped with the finest ingredients. We couldn't get enough! Each meal was better than the last, and the variety on the menu ensured there was something for everyone. The management team was also incredibly hands-on, ensuring that each guest had an unforgettable experience. Their hospitality and attention to detail truly set Guasto apart from other restaurants. After such an amazing first experience, we ended up dining at Guasto four times during our trip to Amsterdam. It’s clear this restaurant is committed to excellence in both food and service. If you're in the city, don’t miss out on this incredible dining experience! They even went out of the way to make a baked potatoes 🥔 with my steak 🥩 and salad 🥗 😋

I'll try to keep this short. But to summarize, this ruined my one night that I spent in Amsterdam. I always give concessions when a place is busy. I understand they have a lot to do and others to serve. But when they blatantly ignore you and serve others who came after you, it makes my blood boil. To top it off, the owner/host tried to make it like it's my fault! We got there first, a group of 4 that came right after us, got seated first. They got their food before we even got our soup. Not okay, but I was willing to let it go. Then 2 separate couples who came in at least 15-20 minutes after us got their food before we even got cutlery (no napkins) on our table. It was as if the color of our skin dictated when we would be served. All my wife and I ordered was 2 soups and a pizza. At the end when I complained, he tried to tell me it's because I ordered soup that's why I got my food over 45 minutes after everyone else got theirs. I paid without eating the food and left. He tried to apologize when he realized how bad it was, but it was too late. I don't live here, so I guess it doesn't matter if I said I'll never return, but maybe this will be seen by him and a would-be customer.

Ambiance The moment you step into Gusto Italian, you’re greeted by a warm glow of pendant lights and the comforting aroma of fresh basil and garlic. Exposed brick walls and open shelving lined with olive oils and vinegars evoke an authentic Italian trattoria, while sleek, modern furnishings keep the space feeling fresh and inviting. Whether you’re seated at a cozy corner table or alongside the open kitchen, the atmosphere strikes the perfect balance between lively buzz and relaxed intimacy.

Service At Gusto Italian, service isn’t just attentive—it feels truly personal. Hosts welcome you as soon as you arrive, often remembering returning guests by name. Throughout the meal, servers anticipate your needs: water glasses are refilled without prompt, bread baskets reappear just when you’re reaching for the last slice, and wine suggestions are offered with genuine enthusiasm. Special dietary requests—vegetarian, gluten-free or otherwise—are accommodated seamlessly, with clear communication between front-of-house and the kitchen. Even during peak hours, the team maintains a calm professionalism that makes every guest feel like the only one in the room.

Food Every dish at Gusto Italian demonstrates a commitment to quality and authenticity: • Antipasti: The burrata is an absolute standout—ultra-creamy and served with blistered cherry tomatoes, drizzled with aged balsamic and fragrant basil oil. The calamari fritti arrives crisp and light, accompanied by a zesty lemon-aioli that cuts through the richness perfectly. • Primi: The hand-rolled pappardelle ragù is a masterclass in comfort—broad ribbons of pasta coated in a slow-cooked beef and pork sauce, enriched with a splash of red wine and finished with just-melted Parmesan. The squid ink linguine with tiger prawns offers a dramatic presentation, with plump shellfish bathed in garlic, chili, and white wine. • Secondi & Contorni: The osso buco is fall-off-the-bone tender, served atop creamy polenta that soaks up every drop of its rich jus. Sides like rosemary roasted potatoes and sautéed broccolini are simple but expertly seasoned—ideal complements to the star mains. • Dolci: Save room for the tiramisu—light, airy ladyfingers imbued with espresso, layered with a mascarpone cream that’s whipped to perfection. The panna cotta, set just right, comes with a vibrant mixed-berry compote that balances sweetness with tang.

Drinks Gusto’s wine list is thoughtfully curated, showcasing Italy’s iconic regions alongside intriguing boutique producers. The staff know each label intimately and can guide you to the perfect pairing, whether it’s a crisp Pinot Grigio with seafood or a robust Barolo to stand up to richer fare. Cocktails, from a flawlessly balanced Negroni to inventive house-made spritz variations, round out a drinks menu that caters to every taste.

Value While Gusto positions itself at a slightly higher price point—mains £18–£28, starters £8–£12, desserts £7–£9—the quality and portion sizes justify every penny. Midweek set menus and lunch specials offer excellent savings, making this top-tier Italian dining accessible any day of the week.

Final Verdict Gusto Italian earns a full five stars for delivering an exceptional dining experience from...
