If you came expecting a sprawling cultural enclave like London’s Chinatown—sorry to disappoint. Amsterdam’s version is more like “Chinatown Lite™”—a short stretch of street tucked right next to the Red Light District, which is either brilliant urban planning or just the city’s way of saying, “Sure, why not?”

Yes, there’s a higher concentration of Asian-themed restaurants, shops, and businesses, most run by actual Asians. It’s a solid place to get your dumpling or bubble tea fix when you’ve had enough cheese and stroopwafels. The sights, sounds, and smells will hit you all at once—think wok smoke, incense, and the faint whiff of a canal on a warm day. Sensory overload, guaranteed.

Like most of Amsterdam’s tourist-heavy zones, prices here are more “European capital” than “Asian bargain.” And yes, the city’s other favourite decorative element—trash—makes an appearance here too. It’s as if the streets are constantly auditioning for a gritty documentary.

Come for the food, stay for the atmosphere—just don’t expect to find an entire Chinatown. Think of it more as a quick side quest between canal selfies and whatever you’re doing next in the Red...

Chinatown in Amsterdam is a place where you can find Chinese food being served.

Food served are types that comes mainly from the region of Szechuan and Hong Kong.

You can find quite a number of big Chinese restaurants here like Hoi Tin, Yu Family, Hong Kong Kitchen, Surinaams Chinese Kam Yin, Nam Kee and others within walking distance of each other.

You can choose depending on what types of Chinese food you prefer. If you like Chinese food, try all the restaurants but I must remind you that they are not as good as those in China and Hong Kong but being in Amsterdam, they'll do for Chinese...

chinatown in the city centre, near the red light district. be sure to drop by Hoi tin for chinese pastries. but not to late. they sell out fast. furthermore drop by the small cafés and pubs. see the fo guang shan he hua temple, a Chinese traditional boeddhist temple and end your visit here for some lunch or dinner at one of the many Asian eateries. I can recommend china sichuan restaurant if you like spicy authentic Chinese food. new king is recommended by others for their dumplings. but I heard that those were quite pricey, so i...

Perhaps I'm a bit biased since I am Chinese and have lived in this city for a number of years. Amsterdam's Chinatown is far from tourist trap! You just need to look around and do a bit of research on the best place to wine and dine and other activities. This area is truly great and worth a visit. Don't listen to anyone who says it's dirty and sleazy! Give it a try. You won't regret it. Note that the red light district runs in parallel to Zeedijk, the main street of Chinatown
