First of all, I avoid hostels at any cost, that is the reason I exclude hostels from my searches in booking sites.||This was listed (masked?) as hotel in google and here (just now I check in booking . com they list it under the name HOSTEL The Globe , this is outrageous and confusing, they should decide is it a hotel or a hostel, cause by all means different guests stay in hotels and different prefer the hostels!||Anyway, since Amsterdam center is notorious for lack of rooms and high prices, cause it's high season all year long, I was happy I got a last minute room as this was a sudden trip.||Price was ridiculously high at €120 for two persons a night for the room I got!!!!||Receptionist gave directions to go outside, to the right, find a door, and go upstairs, (3 floors with no elevator) to find my room, I saw the only door outside was closed so i went and ask again, "you mean the second door to the right? to the next building? with few stairs?" He replied "yes", so we went and climb some extremely hard, steep staircase , and ended up in someones ..living room !!!!!!! ||Obviously by "outside" he mean a door next to the reception INSIDE the building which he show on my third try!||The room was awful, two beds and a bunk with two more beds, all I can say is that I have seen bigger beds in ship's cabins. There was no TV, no closet or anything to hang the clothes, not even a plain hanger, I had to put my clothes in the bunks, no towels(!!!!!!!) only after I went up and down the stairs and ask for towels I got two, one for each guest, no functional window, the small "window' on the wall was hardly opening few centimeters so there was no air inside the room, facing to another wall in short distance less than a meter, in a closed skylight, without curtain. ||Nothing that even remotely resembles a hotel room which was what I paid for, at €240 for 2 nights.||We were so frustrated that we had to leave earlier, the only good thing is that we got refund for the second night!||I don't know maybe for a hostel is excellent, but i went to "HOTEL the globe" not "HOSTEL the Globe" so I have to review it as a hotel. If the owners feel that this is not fair they should inform every place that lists their property to advertise it as a Hostel....||Location is...
Read moreAVOID unless you like POOR customer service and BEDBUGS. The staff were rude and unhelpful (particularly the old dutch guy with swept back hair). Upon returning one night, my girlfriends room card had been soaked through as she had it in her pocket and there was heavy rain. We told the man at the desk she didn't have it and his response was "not my problem" along with a shrug of his shoulders. After an exchange of words, I insisted there must be another way to check she was genuinely staying in the hostel at which point he reluctantly checked her ID and approximately 10 seconds later he confirmed and we were allowed to our room. Very rude, not to mention completely unnecessary.
On to the next major issue, BED BUGS! My girlfriend was bitten all over her arms at some point towards the end of our stay. She politely wrote an email once we had left to make them aware of this and their response indicated that, because we didn't complain while we were there (we didn't realise until we left) there was no way to prove the bed bugs were from the hostel. They said instead they could have been from "e.g. flight, bus, train, coffee shop, park, and etc......"
The fact that there are countless reviews of this hostel citing bed bugs indicates to me clearly where the problem lies.
Avoid this place like the plague. Honestly, it is much better to book somewhere that respects their guest and pay a few euro's extra per night....
Read moreThe actual hostel is perfectly fine, the location is nice and they have a cool dark pub downstairs if you're into that. The facilities were very average and I didn't have many complaints except one big incident.
The room I was in had me (a guy), 3 girls, and another guy. The other guy was extremely creepy from the beginning, he told all of us he was from a different place than he said before, he asked every girl's phone number, whenever a girl would leave the hostel he would ask where they were going and then try to follow them, that kind of thing. But then one night we caught him watching all the girls as they slept, standing right next to their beds. I talked to him, but he just pretended he didn't understand me (I speak Spanish, English and Italian and he said he was from many different countries in South America). The girls talked to the front desk, as did I, and the receptionist just told us to let him know if the creepy guy does anything again. The dude in our room was of course still acting creepy, and after multiple complaints to the receptionist they told us they would talk to him. Still, nothing changed, so we all checked out early. It was extremely disappointing that the staff would put the lack of hassle of moving him rooms or kicking him out above the safety and comfort of multiple guests, but...
