Colibrí Cocina Mexicana – Disappointing Tasting Menu Experience

Colibrí presents itself as a “Mexican fine dining” restaurant in Arnhem, and I was genuinely curious and excited to try it. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to the expectations.

As a large group, we opted for the tasting menu, but the portions were not suited for the group size. The food lacked strong flavor and felt somewhat careless in presentation and execution. To make things worse, we had to wait over 30 minutes between some courses, which disrupted the whole flow of the meal.

Given the quality and quantity, the price felt far too high for what we received. The one bright spot was the cocktails, creative, unique, and definitely worth trying if you're into drinks with a twist.

It was my first time here with some friends and we didn’t know exactly how did the food look like.. we got happily surprised to find out. Such a nice mix of flavours in the dishes. I ordered a plate with 3 different type of fried chicken and I was so happy with the flavours of the other things from the plate. It was a nice match! Two other friends ordered tacos and they were also pleased, but one of them found the black beans a bit spicy. The drinks were also really good. We had also ordered some appetisers with shrimps which were quite some and crispy. At the end, with 2 appetisers, 4 meals and drinks, the bill was around 50 p.p. And we considered it...

As a Mexican, I've got to say: I'm super thankful Colibrí is here in Arnhem. Their dishes offer a delightful nod to Mexican classics, while sprinkling in some unique twists that showcase the chef's creativity. The chef himself is an awesome person, radiating warmth and charisma, which you can feel not just in the food, but in the wonderful team atmosphere he's cultivated. The servers? Absolutely top-notch. The ceviche has a special place in my heart, but every dish is a journey of flavors that keeps me coming back for more. Big thumbs up for Colibrí.
