Most of the food is good. but watch out if you don’t like something. The waitress I had, was rude. She didn’t want or appreciate a solo eater even being there so she barely smiled at me from beginning to end, but I left when she became insulting. I explain - below my recommendations for where to go instead.
Rum Cannibal Bar, just across the street, has much better service and a more varied menu. Or if you want something even fancier: The Wine Cellar is excellent. Kome is also close by and has good food. It’s a bit of a walk along the beach but you can dine finely and swim at Restaurant Nultwintig. And if you’re looking for Indian inspired food: Mandal. While service may be generally slow at some of those places — it won’t be slow, & rude, when you are one of the only people there. At least, for me, if you get the waitress who is falsely smiling and laughing at others but being directly rude to you, just leave.
I was in the middle of what was going to be about a 300ANG meal, and I had to cut it short (losing the owners: 150ANG at the least; & as I usually tip, loosing the waitress a large tip) because I was directly insulted by the waitress. The strange part is how unwelcoming she was when I arrived on my own to eat — no smile, she seemed annoyed in general... no problem tho — until she greeted with huge smiles and loud compliments the groups that came in. Right away, I felt belittled when I realized it was me that she was being dismissive towards. I do not know if it is because I was alone, American or because I arrived just after opening — but... weird. And then, I was enjoying and letting her know that I enjoyed the 2 tataki dishes I got, as well as the champagne I ordered and another appetizer I order twice — but the soup was bad. There was a sour taste too it that overpowered the pumpkin and the carrot, as well as no balance to the dish. The naan bread was a bit tough & the soup simply wasn’t good. I decided to order another appetizer and the soup was removed. My plan was to order another dish and dessert as well as more wine and maybe even a fancy coffee. But this waitress who had been mildly rude the entire time — pulled out her all out rudeness then. She demanded why I didn’t like the soup... I began to tell her, very calmly- and she stopped me right there.Said ‘Well that’s just your opinion, Isn’t it?’ And I stopped her right there so she could stop the chef from cooking my other food and I left. I do not recommend anyone goes there alone or perhaps just anyone who is American or not Dutch. As I’m not sure why she chose to make me feel unwanted over my entire meal — but it was clearly prejudicial. She particularly seems to dislike cultures that tip well. There are some delicious options on the menu, but... well who wants to pay someone to make it clear they don’t want ‘your...
Read moreHORRIBLE SERVICE, food is ok at best. I left after our appetizers arrived because the staff was extremely rude and innapropiate. Our cocktails were just 2 cups of sugar with a bit of alcohol and The Tataki Beef I order was bland and chewy, but the truly horrible thing happened when my wife asked for the WiFi password to check something in Google maps while we waited for drinks. The person she asked made sure she had order food, and then proceeded to follow her to our table to make sure we had in fact order. She approached the table and asked me (still looking at the menu), did you order? (Not even hi, and she wasn't our waitress) to what I answered yes and kept looking at the menu. She stayed there staring at me, and a few seconds later said ARE YOU GOING TO ORDER MORE?........hahahah really? Like we are going to Curacao to steal your wifi, PLEASE! We left right after and left our two cups of sugar on the table and a bit more than a 10% tip because we DO have manners. Overall, they are rude to Latin@s. I am Mexican American, and I have been treated very badly everywhere on the island. I guess they don't want the business of the over 50 million Hispanic and Latino Americans in the states. Definitely missing our beautiful California right now, where EVERYONE is welcome (even you rude...
Read moreWe a hotel this place so much!! We went on a Saturday night and our first surprise was the live music out on the street, so we took a table on the outer part of their terrace. It was a smaller and slightly wonky table but we wanted to see the live music and people outside. Very promptly a waitress asked if we’d be eating and when we said yes, offered us a better table letting us know that that one might be a little uncomfortable if we’re having anything more than drinks. We decided to keep our table and told her not to worry, we’d make it work. A few minutes later the manager also came to make sure we were comfortable and let us know we could switch later if we wanted to. Service 10/10. On to the food. I had the coconut shrimp curry and it was simply amazing. It was fresh, had chopped veggies in the sauce and the naan as warm and soft. My husband had the seared tuna steak, rare, and it was cooked to perfection. Paired with a Rueda wine. After eating we were craving a little extra bite so we ordered the pastechis, half cheese and half chicken. Both were delicious and not at all oily. I do recommend the chicken as it had more spices.
Btw our small, wonky table did just fine! It was just big enough to...
