My new additions:
During Corona times, Huszar was my go-to. They truly respected the rules and went out of their way to make sure you could have a nice experience while still being safe. I did the high tea probably 10 times with different people. It's a good, varied spread, with soup, sandwiches, sweets and a tea platter. Since I did it so often, I got a bit spoiled, meaning I noticed when one day I got more or less dessert than another day, or more or less little seasonings on my tea tray 😉 But the staff is super friendly, and was always there to get more or something, or something in addition to what we had, if I really wanted it.
I also love that they have the whole new room with skylights. This is my preferred spot to sit.
I hope they never get rid of the kids veggie beet burger. It's just the right size for me, and I love the recipe so so much!
My old review:
This place has a great interior and is super child friendly. There is a whole corner for kids and changing station with spare diapers and wipes if you forget — so handy. The menu is varied and has options for meat eaters and vegetarians. There are a billion beers and three wines, but I guess that's just the way it is. The white wine I had was nice, so I can't complain there.
The only thing that I notice is that the menu descriptions sometimes sound more exotic and special than the actual meal I end up with. Not always, but often. The food is always good though — not the very very best, but not disappointing.
I also just love the location (so close to the station), the friendly staff and the ambiance, so I'll definitely keep going back. The price/quality is definitely reasonable too. I've been many times, day and evening, and I'd say the experiences are pretty consistent...except for the couple of times where my food has been truly excellent ;) Those times really stand out! Last time, the special was absolutely delicious to the point I...

As for the historic, unique building: Cafe-brasserie Huszár is located inside the beautiful building of "Bacinol 2", the former central office of Royal Factory F.W. Braat. Mr Braat was an entrepreneur in Delft and started a plumbing company which... had developed into a large metals business that produced windows, gates and central heating systems.. Their big office was built on the Hooikade, full of administrative spaces and drawing offices. The building built in art style of "De Stijl"* and "business expressive", with influences from the work of Frank Lloyd Wright. *{Vilmos Huszár and Piet Mondriaan' s work}
Of course all the window frames were from own production. The main stairwell was decorated in full height with a stained glass window, designed by Hungarian artist Vilmos Huszár. {picture below}
The building housed the congregational Social Service the 80s and went on to become a business incubator creative industry "Bacinol 2" in 1998 (the successor of "Bacinol 1")
The 21st of March 2012 Café-brasserie Huszár first opened her doors. The name is derived from the artist of the stained glass art piece: Vilmos Huszár. This special, but obscure attist has worked closely with Piet Mondriaan and Theo Van Doesburg in the art form "De Stijl'.
At Huszár they serve lunch, drinks & bites and dinner with a good story... as much fair, local and organic products as possible. Besides that there's a lot more to do at Huszár than eat and drink. Throughout the year lots of fun and exciting things are...
Read moreI had the goat cheese salad (which was only on the English menu and not on the Dutch one). For 17.50 I expected a proper meal salad, but it was not. They were generous with the 2 big pieces of delicious goat cheese, but apart from that there was maybe 50 grams of lettuce, 7 croutons, some drizzle of raspberry dressing and 2 old tasting walnut pieces - which would have been much better if roasted. I thought there would be blue berries, but there were not. There were 2 slices of bread served with the salad, but I would have preferred some more body to the salad, or at least more vegetables. My friends had naan breads, these were generous portions (even a bit cheaper than the salad) and looked much...
