A fun ~3.5 hour medieval dining experience with minstrels, costumes and staff actors. On weekdays a tavern restaurant, on weekends a dining experience/show (with set start/end times, staff actors that speak a bit "ye old Dutch" and only a couple of choice menus that have to be picked for the entire table). Some other points of interest. Old style medieval Inn interior, old wooden tables and benches. Food is good and very on-theme though nothing extraordinary (pork chops/chicken wings). Expect to eat most of it with your hands. Unsure if they can accomodate vegetarian/vegan options. Expect a couple of large loud groups in the space. (Not very bothersome) On the nights with live music (mostly fridays and saturdays) there is an extra charge for the minstrel(s) of 8 euros p.p. Worth it in my opinion. This might not be a very romantic experience as a couple if you're seated in between some large groups. Dine by candlelight (amazing atmosphere), don't expect many pictures to work out though. They offer optional medieval vest and hat at an extra charge. Reserve well in advance but intend to actually go! (they have a cancellation policy) There is a set start and end time, expect to be there for 3.5 to 4 hours
We went with a group of 8 friends. All in all we had an amazing experience, this is the kind of place I would bring family from abroad and tourists, ideally go in a small group or...
Read moreLet’s start with the positive: the old house is really impressive, the old interior and wood is an eyecatcher. Besides that everything feels like a scam. It’s so dark in the restaurant that you can’t really see your food and that’s probably better because the food is horrible. The meat is cheap, smells old and is cooked really bad. Mostly it is meat and the vegetarians in our company got severely sick and food poisoned from the rice they served. Obviously they know that people only come one time to the place. I can’t remember a worse food experience and I would normally ask my money back. I would not recommend anyone to visit that place besides you get so drunk that you don’t sense anymore what you are eating and laugh about every cheap joke they make. The smell in the place is hardly standable and the costumes you should put on are disgustingly dirty. We payed almost 450 Euros for seven people. This were at least 400 Euros too much.
I your reply you claim that I didn’t say anything when we were there. That’s not true. We all mentioned that the food quality was bad. And the food poisoning of our vegetarian friends was without any doubt caused by your rice. It sounds a bit funny to apologize with the food quality medieval times. After my opinion you can also cook simple food in a good quality. Especially for 60 Euros...
Read moreYes, it was a great time and all, musicians who made a great effort and the staff. It really do felt like you were thrown back in time to the middle agges. We heard about this resturant as a tips from a free walking tour website. We went here without any more knowledge than it was going to be a middle age resturant. We look at their menu on Stadsherberg website and thought 32 € for a good meal per person sounds fair. We (two people) were charge 96 € in the end... The beer and water we understood to cost extra. But on top of that they added extra fees of 16€. Its better to write what the full cost will be on the website clearly so to avoid these mistakes from happening. Its also good to point out that its a 3 hour event. We understand this idea and its funny and great. But its not clear on the website and when we ask when we come what this is, what do you have on the menu and so forth you don't get a clear answer. So be clear with your customers what they are getting before charging them almost 100€ to avoid...
