Started off well. Smiling friendly staff. Food decent. Tasty chicken strips. Nice Irish coffee. What you'd expect from any Irish pub in the world. Then it all went down hill. Young very slim, short waitress with black hair. Face on her like a slapped arse. Cleared the plates even though wasn't finished. I let it slip. Then she barged past me at the bar. One of those people who walks very fast. No awareness of people with hidden disabilities like my wife who she barged past making physical contact twice. No sorry. No eye contact. This young woman let her boss down, her colleagues and most of all herself. There is no excuse for her rudeness. Having worked in customer service all my life she'd be out the door if she worked for me. Clearly needs to work in a job with no customer contact. She huffed and looked like she'd rather be elsewhere. Customers rarely remember what you did for them but they do remember how you made them feel, and we felt like we were a complete nuisance to her instead of valued customers. I come to this pub twice a year when visiting Haarlem. Disappointed. Would have been 5 stars for all her colleagues but my goodness this was just awful from her. I so hope she is temporary as have liked this pub for many years. Irish pubs always make you feel welcome wherever they might be, but from her it was like fo away, your annoying me. Full marks to her colleagues...

No complaints about service: the team is friendly and does its best to serve you speedily even when the place is packed. And they remember about you! (especially one, she's amazing, she remembers every single time even if months go by without going there. Please give her a raise!).
Food is pretty good, a bit pricey, but it is what it is with the inflation and all.
The pub also hosts a weekly Quiz on Monday, English speakers friendly, for years now and every now and then I enjoy attending it. Both the quiz masters are fun and do their job greatly.
Bored at the start of the week in empty Haarlem or simply want to enjoy drinks with friends? Tierney's is the place to be. Want to follow a football match? The best place for that, for the atmosphere remains fun and safe (even for a non football fan like me. - and this says a...
Read moreWe know this place since our first visit to Haarlem in 2018. We visit this lovely city almost every year and when we stay -usually for 7/10 nights- we always have dinner here. It is a great place for a couple of pints of guinness and nice pub comfort food. Burgers, fries, bitterballen ,pies... everything is supper yummy. We even have had twice new years eve dinner in this place with a special menu at a reasonable price. Staff is really nice and helpful. should you have any question the owner is always looking forward to giving answer to emails or messages. I can only recommend this place if you fancy Irish style pub food, drinks and athmosphere. We will be back soon...
