Casa Ramon — Restaurant in Leiden

We went here for a fairly big birthday dinner, and honestly it was pretty disappointing. They sat us inside even though it was gorgeous weather outside, which was already a bit of a bummer. Drinks took ages, and a couple never even showed up until we asked again because they’d somehow been “lost” in the kitchen.

Starters took almost 50 minutes—even though most were cold—and they didn’t arrive together. By the time the bread came we were so hungry we ate it, only for the olives and padrón peppers to show up after we were already done. Not really how you want to enjoy starters.

The mains then took another 30+ minutes, with us being told “just 5 more minutes” three separate times. In the end, the whole dinner dragged on much longer than we wanted. Looking for an alternative to the excellent Italian and steak houses in Leiden we came across this gem of an oasis of Spain, the restaurant has all the feeling of an authentic Spanish family run restaurant and the food is nothing short of perfection, I had the Monk Fish and I have never had a more perfectly cooked and seasoned piece of fish straight from the grill, it was perfection on a plate, my wife had the paella that was amazing filled with chicken and perfectly cooked seafood, my daughter had steak which was a little too rare for her (although perfect for me) but the staff were happy to take it to be cooked to her liking and brought it back perfectly cooked to her liking. Worst service ever! We went on a Saturday night. We had a reservation. From the very beginning we realised the service was not going to be good. They did not have a menu for drinks other than wine. They came to take our order 20 minutes after we arrived. We got our food 90 minutes after ordering. They did not apology. When the owner came at the end of the night to ask if the food was good, I said it took too long and I was too hungry to enjoy the food. His only reply was "this is not what I asked".
