Fratelli Leiden — Restaurant in Leiden

Reserved for 18:30 and we were shown straight to the table. They gave us menus when we sat down but we were completely ignored for another 15 minutes. After waiving down a server we ordered a pizza and a pasta dish as well as a bottle of wine… The wine came immediately but before we could have our first sip, our food arrived. I was stunned because it was less than 5 minutes since we placed our order…. Fast service is great, but this was suspiciously fast…. Leading us to conclude that the food was pre-made. And it tasted like it as well. Not awful, but perfectly average. Then we waited for someone to come back and check on us. 45 minutes and not a single server so much as looked in our direction. I was expecting a lot for this restaurant since it looks busy but the reality made me super disappointed. The most improving point that I want to mention is the taste of their food. To be honest, it is not equal to the standard of the restaurant. The restaurant looks decent and the food is not decent at all. We ordered Penne Ortolana and Pizza Inferno, and both of them are quite tasteless. For the penne ortolana, I can only taste sour and it is really easy to taste that it is the sauce made from the can tomato. For the Pizza Inferno, it is super salty that I even doubt if they rob the salt store. So if you are really looking for a good Italian food in Leiden, definitely...

We just came back from this place for my husband's birthday. It is sort of a last min decision, but the end result is surprisingly good! The restaurant is located at the very old center of leiden, at a winter night it feels very romantic. The decor inside is also very nice, especially all the table settings. The food is above all very authentic Italian. They are delicately made and beautifully served. We especially want to thank the nice waitress who has been providing outstanding service all evening.
