The hotels is in a good location and the breakfast is satisfactory. That said, the rooms are not cleaned, unless you ask for it, the management doesn’t keep count of drinks taken from the mini bar and then gets upset if you don’t remember. The rooms are tiny and the first thing the manager tells you on arrival is not to bother him at night, unless it is an emergency and complained about a previous customer. Mind you, no one told us to keep a tab in advance. They rate themselves as a 4 star, but it is barely a 3 star bed and breakfast. One lady at the reception was really rude and accused us to not want to pay the bill, after we had asked her colleague a few minutes earlier to prepare the bill for us and earlier on , in the morning we had asked twice to her other colleague and both had refused to tell us how much we owed and one had said it was on the house. We never asked for a discount and asked several times to pay. In light of this, the tenure of the lady speaking disrespectfully to us was inappropriate and showed lack of communication and coordination. We left with a very bad feeling about it. The steps are very steep and narrow. Make sure not to book rooms on the high floors as there is no lift and it felt unsafe to go up and down, especially...
Read moreMy experience with this hotel was bad. I was hoping to get a night with comfort and ease and found myself getting the opposite without being aware I would get it. I came in without a booking and the receptionist offered me the 'apartment', only explaining it was just behind the hotel. Once I arrived there later in the evening, there was nothing left of the luxury that was showing in the lobby of the hotel. It was just like a student housing in a student complex. The neighbors were loud, the toilet was dirty with hairs, the couch was uncomfortable, the power socket fell from the wall. As I'd paid over 100 euros for one evening I was not expecting anything like this. So I called the night reception and explained the situation. The lady was understanding and told me that for now there was nothing they could do but that there could be compensation when I came the next day to the reception. The next day at the reception I again explained that I was not happy with what I got offered, but then suddenly there was no possibility anymore for any compensation. I think once they saw I was merely a young guy, they changed their mind and no longer wanted to offer me anything anymore. I think that as a 4 star hotel they could a better job in their...
Read moreThis was the first hotel we stayed in on our tour of Holland. It certainly set the standard for our trip. The hotel is set in traditional buildings facing a canal in Old Leiden. We were warmly greeted on our arrival before being shown to our lavishly decorated room. The hotel buildings are narrow and tall like most of the old Dutch buildings and have been sympathetically renovated with many of their original features. This includes the staircase which is steep, narrow and winding. Taking our suitcase up to our room was challenging but we were assisted by the willing receptionist. I have to say it was well worth it, our room was stunning with lovely view over the canal. The room its self was fresh and clean and contained everything we needed for our stay.|Breakfast was optional and we did opt for breakfast, which although it was quite expensive, it was well worth paying for. There was a great choice of hot and cold food and drinks that were all freshly prepared for you. In particular the extensive egg and tea menu's were quite impressive. The breakfast room itself was exquisitely decorated with panels of Dutch landscapes to browse whilst you ate.|Old Leiden was also a beautiful part of the city and our hotel was the...
