Bold Rooftopbar — Restaurant in Maastricht

I went to this place yesterday for a glass of wine (Pinot Grigio), and honestly, it was a very bad experience. The wine smelled really strange and tasted bad, definitely not how Pinot Grigio should taste. I mentioned it nicely to the waitress and asked if she could check. She came back saying they couldn’t change it and I had to pay, which I was still willing to accept.

But then things became a bit worse. I asked for a bit more info, just to understand if maybe something had gone wrong with the bottle. Out of nowhere, a man (I assume from behind the bar) came over my table, raising his voice, and basically shut me down. He told me I was wrong, that the wine was fine, and that I’d have to pay: “I won’t give it to you for free,” he repeated. No explanation, no interest in even having a normal conversation.

What bothered me most is that he said, “We just opened the bottle,” as if that proved there couldn’t be a problem. If anything, that could mean it had been open for a while or was poorly stored.

I live in Maastricht and usually get great service around the city, so this experience really has been the worst I've had in a restaurant in the city. Not because of the wine, but because of how dismissive their response was. Definitely not a place...

We stayed at this hotel after a long day at a course and decided to unwind with a couple of drinks at the rooftop bar. The view was great, but the service left much to be desired. We had two drinks and paid for them around 11/11:10 PM. At 11:30 PM, the bartender announced the last call, but we weren’t informed beforehand because we had already paid. It seems they assumed that since we had paid, we were finished drinking. This was incredibly frustrating because, at 11:37 PM, when we wanted to order another drink, we were flat-out denied without warning or any attempt to find a solution.

The bartender was rude and dismissive, and the whole situation felt poorly handled. For a hotel bar, I expected much better communication and professionalism. We left feeling disappointed and unwelcome, which is a shame because the atmosphere had potential.

I wouldn’t recommend this bar unless management improves the service and trains staff to handle situations more...
