Coffeelovers Plein 1992 — Restaurant in Maastricht

On Sunday, we as a group of 4 Asians visited Coffeelovers Plein 1992 at 11:05 because the one at Bookstore Dominicanen was closed until 12:00. We ordered 2 chai latte, 1 mint + honey tea, and 1 hot chocolate. After 10 mins, we received our drinks.

Around 11:35, we finished the drinks and were chatting a bit. 3 customers (1 adult, 2 kids) arrived and there were not enough space. The waitress after talking with those customers went straight to our table and asked us whether we would like to order anything else? She asked us that question while handing the payment terminal to us. The waitress then went back and told the customers that we made the payment while glancing at us. Quite disappointed and embarrassed, we left immediately after making the payment.

There were other customers also at our table who arrived before us. Next to our table was a family with kids who also just arrived 5 mins after us. Why would she passive aggressively ask us to leave when it was not even 1 hour since we arrived? We was planning to leave at 11:45 anyway as we would like to visit the bookstore.

I have been living in Maastricht for 6 years and experienced a fair share of racism but this was the worst passive aggressive racism experience I had encountered. Very strange experience here. 09:20 in the morning and plenty of space outside. I sit down and scan the on table code to order. I have placed my laptop on the table. I am approached by the waitress to be told I cannot sit outside as laptops are banned? OK I say - why ? Shoulder shrug - the boss says so. Coffeelovers Plein 1992 / Blanche Dael is a perfect spot to relax, have a great cup/ glass of coffee, a delectable bite and catch up on conversation ( as it is a wi-fi free zone). This place has a history with coffee going couple of hundred years. We were in Maastricht for a day and luckily found this amazing place. For almost the first time, the coffee was just the right temperature and not luke warm as I normally get in my hometown of Seattle. The service was with humor and smile.
