Review of Japanese Restaurant Kobe in Maastricht:
Nestled within the Crown Palace Hotel, overlooking the serene Maas River, Japanese Restaurant Kobe offers an unparalleled Japanese dining experience in Maastricht. Recently, my wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at Kobe, opting for a departure from the usual Teppanyaki affair to indulge in their A la Carte menu, specifically the 5 and 6-course Sushi menus.
From the moment we stepped in, we were captivated by the tranquil ambiance and the stunning views of Maastricht across the river. Our culinary journey commenced with a delightful starter course followed by the Japanese Miso Soup, setting the tone for an evening of culinary excellence. The Sashimi course showcased the freshness and precision of Kobe's ingredients, while the Tempura course, a highlight of the 6-course menu, was a crispy, flavorful delight.
The main course boasted a varied selection of sushi, each piece meticulously crafted and bursting with flavor. It was evident that the chefs at Kobe adhere to the highest standards of quality and authenticity, transporting us back to our travels in Japan with each bite. The attention to detail in both presentation and taste was truly commendable, elevating the dining experience to new heights.
Throughout the evening, the staff at Kobe demonstrated exceptional professionalism and warmth, attending to our needs with effortless efficiency while allowing us to savor each moment without feeling rushed. Their seamless service added to the overall charm of the restaurant, creating a welcoming atmosphere that complemented the exquisite cuisine.
While Maastricht boasts its fair share of "all you can eat" sushi establishments, none can rival the superior quality and artistry found at Kobe. Our experience at Kobe was nothing short of exceptional, leaving us eager to return at the earliest opportunity. For anyone seeking an authentic taste of Japan amidst the picturesque setting of Maastricht, Japanese Restaurant Kobe is an...
Read moreOur evening went not so well. 14, August 2018. €121,00 Kobe is the name of the restaurant but not the grade of beef. This is important as there is a distinct difference between the two. Upon entering i had asked staff if they knew what grade Wagyu they offered (the actual grade of beef) to which they did not know. They consulted their chefs who also did not know. A follow up from the owner later stated grade 8 however i suspect 5. Staff should know what grade of beef is offered as its a misnomer of a moniker to have a restaurant named Kobe when only serving Wagyu. The sushi was good and i found no faults worth mentioning. As mentioned above the beef was not quite Wagyu and was cooked too quickly as they were missing two chefs midweek and the restaurant had too many people for the chefs on hand. The chefs required instructions to make sure the mains course was served in time for everyone eating. Nothing worse than one person being served their main course whilst another is being served an appetizer. That's just poor kitchen reading of a ticket.
I must say the original review resulted in offence taken as though process improvement and the ability to take a critique to heart might be beyond the capabilities of the owners. Not everyone earns a 5 star nor does everyone deserve one. A poor product is a poor product regardless if the majority like or sell out to some hippie/world peace version of "lets not upset someone as they might cry" mentality. Your customers are your business. You can still keep your vision whilst taking their advice and improving.
Total time from taking order to exit. 2.5 hours for a party of two. Its summer season. Chefs take holidays when its slow...
Read moreYesterday, my colleagues and I had the pleasure of enjoying a teppanyaki dinner at Japanese Kobe in Maastricht. We were a group of seven, visiting as part of our Christmas team celebration, and it turned out to be an absolutely delightful experience.
From the moment we arrived, the staff impressed us with their friendliness and professionalism. Despite the restaurant being completely full, they managed everything seamlessly, creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. It was evident they were busy, yet their composure and attentive service made us feel like VIPs.
The chef was the highlight of the evening. Not only did he prepare spectacular food, but he also turned the cooking process into an engaging and entertaining show. He explained each step with enthusiasm, kept the energy high, and had us all smiling and laughing. His skill and passion were evident in every course.
The five- and six-course menus we chose were well-paced; the team kindly gave us a break between courses, ensuring we could savor every bite without feeling rushed. Each dish was perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious—true culinary artistry!
This dinner capped off our day perfectly, following the afternoon visit to the nearby Christmas market. The trip from Brussels was completely worth it, and we left the restaurant with full hearts, even fuller bellies and happy memories.
A huge thank-you to the chef and the entire team at Japanese restaurant Kobe for making our evening so special. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a unique and outstanding dining experience...
