I get a $75 voucher for this top five Restaurant in Aruba called Windows on Aruba. I am also an all inclusive DiVi vacation club owner and platinum member. The views are nice if you like golf courses, the ambience is nice romantic music playing overall a nice setting for a romantic dinner. We order appetizers the antipasto for two, which was OK I have had much better. We then order our main entrées my wife orders, a gluten-free penne, la vodka with grilled chicken and I ordered the recommended Veal chops. The food arrives our waitress or server. Her name was Valentina very nice and professional. I mentioned that is our anniversary. We are provided with congratulations your anniversary and we order our drinks fast-forward 15-20 minutes our entrées arrive and my wife proceeds to start eating her penne à la vodka with grilled chicken one thing to mention the grilled chicken was not included in the dish was a separate serving with grilled chicken, and my Veal chops came with a risotto with broccolini and asparagus. To be honest too much lime, which took away the flavor of the risotto and the Veal chops were tough. My wife after five minutes of eating, realizes that her penne vodka not only looks different but tastes different. This was white similar to Alfredo sauce at which point we ask Valentina to check because we don’t believe this is the right order. Let me remind you this is one of those restaurants rated top five in the island and my wife has a gluten allergy. Valentina comes back and mentions that they made a mistake in the kitchen and they served it anyway instead of just addressing the mistake. The manager came to apologize her name was Yasmina and comped us my wife’s mistaken, entrée as well as two glasses of wine and dessert. At this point, we thought OK well mistakes happen but this should not be the case at A top 5 location with significant health implications. We were assured this has never happened before. My wife decided not to eat anymore food as she was afraid that the food was contaminated with gluten, and she was not convinced that it was something she should continue eating. When the bill came and I went to pay the bill I provided the voucher from the hotel when I provided the voucher the server, Valentina took out the amount of the voucher and brought back the rest of the check at which point I went to charge it to my room, and this is where the saga begins again. I was notified that I needed to provide them proof that I was staying at the place that I was staying, in the room that I was staying at and that I have the ability to charge to this room. I mentioned the hotel that I was staying at made the reservation the voucher that I was using was granted by the hotel and I was wearing wristbands that prove that I’m staying at the hotel. I’m not sure why this was needed. They said this was their policy and that they needed that or a credit card. I asked to speak to the manager, as I didn’t understand this process since we’ve been to three other restaurants, Seabreeze, Mulligan’s and others on the property and nobody asked for this proof. it seems People have been charging meals to different room numbers and signing different names and this is their new policy which I’m not saying they should not have a policy. I’m saying that this policy should be made Public before you book your reservation or at the time of the booking and not something sprung up on you when you go to pay the bill. Of course I did not have this card which they were asking for that proves all this information. I’m then told that if you’re checking out the next day, you cannot charge to your room again some new policy that you’re not made aware of at the time of booking your reservation. After the voucher of $75 and having my wife’s entrée comped, 2 desserts comped and two glasses of wine comped, the bill was still $132. This seems extremely high for the value that you’re getting. To be honest, I was not impressed with the quality of the food. I was not impressed with The service and I was not impressed with the...
Read moreI really expected to have a wonderful experience at Widows however a few events occurred that affected my dining experience. I have Celiac Disease so I let our lovely waitress Valentina know that I’d like to order the Penne Alla Vodka with gluten free pasta. When our order came I noticed the pasta dish didn’t resemble what I’d ordered. I ate a little and realized that it was not Penne Alla Vodka. My husband let Valentina know that there was an issue and she immediately checked with the kitchen staff and confirmed that they had messed up the order with chicken Alfredo but assured me that the pasta was gluten free. I worried about the Alfredo sauce having gluten also so I didn’t eat another bite. Sure enough I had a reaction later in the evening. The manager Yasmina was very professional and comped my meal and our glasses of wine and offered free dessert to make up for the mistake, which we appreciated
The second thing that made us uncomfortable was the payment process. We are Divi Vacation Club owners and we were staying at Dutch Village. We had to cancel a tour and received a voucher for Windows instead. We presented this voucher issued by Divi to Valentina who then asked us for our room number and room ID to confirm we were staying on the property. She explained that they have had a number of guests who have given them the wrong room number and didn’t pay their bill. We both had wristbands on for Divi Dutch and room keys with us but they insisted they needed the white card with the room info and wi-fi info given at check in. We didn’t have this with us of course, because who knew, and explained to the manager we didn’t have any issue like this at Seabreeze or Mulligan’s. Finally the manager accepted that we were true resort patrons and let us add the cost of the meal to our room tab.
Lastly, we’re celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary and let the staff know this but apparently in the chaos of trying to close out our meal this was overlooked and we left with some disappointment in the experience.
From what I tasted of our food it was delicious. We had the antipasto for an appetizer and my husband had the veal chop with risotto, which was too lemony for him. The Alfredo and pasta I received with the grilled chicken on the side tasted good but was just sauce and pasta. The wine was good - house Cab - and the cocktails were on point. However this was an uncomfortable experience and I probably won’t visit Windows again and stick to the great restaurants we dined at off the Divi properties. Valentina is a wonderful server and we enjoyed talking to her. She tried her best to make...
