As someone who occasionally writes a review whenever I visit an establishment, which is not that often because I don't really enjoy dining out all that much, I hate coming across a place that I didn't enjoy. Because that means that I have to write an honest review about it, and I rarely write negative reviews.
The restaurant is small, and I suspect that the waitress serving us, a young woman, was a daughter or granddaughter of the woman who was back in the kitchen preparing the meals. Which makes me feel all the worse about the fact that I didn't enjoy the food.
Okay, enough build up -- here's the thing. I didn't like my main course. I had a lentil soup as an appetizer, which was actually quite tasty -- but I felt the soup lacked a certain depth of flavor. The naan bread was good, fluffy and crusty on the sides. No issues there. It came with three dipping sauces, which are your typical Indian sauces: chutney, something minty, and something with cucumber (I believe).
When the waitress came to take our order, and when I said I wanted the Paneer Masala, she told me it was somewhat sweet. This wasn't specifically mentioned on the menu, mind you. I decided to just do it, because I have genuine trouble making choices, but I digress. The person I was with, my dad, had chicken tikka.
The curry I had was, and I mean it, way too sweet. It tasted as though someone dropped in a large amount of sugar instead of anything else. I've never tasted such a sweet curry before, and I'm an avid enjoyer of Indian cuisine (both in the Netherlands and abroad (like in England)). I've had this dish before, but never felt as disappointed as I did here. My dad told me he enjoyed his chicken, but when I did a taste test, I noticed how dry the chicken was. Not tender or succulent at all.
I am well aware of the insane inflation, but four euros for a Heineken beer is probably a very high price for one. Take this into account.
The waitress was sweet, and asked us if everything was good. No issues there.
I'm really sorry, but it just wasn't as good as I hoped after reading the raving reviews.

ย ย ย Read moreThe food was average. The service was slow. Our starter was the chicken tandoori and samosa. They were both tasty. Our main was the butter chicken and lamb madras. The butter chicken was fine. A bit too sweet for our liking. Very suitable for children (or adults) who canโt tolerate spice. The lamb madras was spicy and quite sour. A bit too sour for us. Our mains were served with naan. The naan was thick and chewy. Not crispy. Dessert was (mango-flavoured) khulfi. It was tasty. A nice addition was the...
ย ย ย Read moreGreat place! We came with five people and shared several dishes (starter, main and side), all freshly prepared, tasty, and not too spicy. One of us is from India and said everything was perfectly cooked, just like his mother makes at home, so truly authentic. Service was very friendly, even though it was busy and we had to wait a bit. A bit warm inside, but the food and fair prices made it...
