Dok Boa Thai & Laos Food — Restaurant in Rotterdam

This small Thai restaurant offers a pleasant, down-to-earth dining experience. It’s simple and unpretentious (the kind of place you might find tucked away on a quiet street in Chiang Mai). The atmosphere is relaxed, and the focus is clearly on the food. Most of the dishes we tried were very flavorful and well-seasoned. The massaman curry and padkrapao had a nice depth of flavor, and the overall quality of the cooking was solid. It’s clear that the kitchen knows how to balance spice, herbs, and texture in a way that’s satisfying. There are a few areas that could be improved. The service was quite slow during our visit, so it’s probably not the best choice if you’re in a hurry. Also, while the pad krapao was enjoyable, it didn’t include holy basil (krapao) which is a key ingredient in that dish, and the string beans weren’t the Thai variety (which is thinner, longer beans and has a different flavour) That said, it’s a good spot for a casual meal with honest flavors and no fuss. This is without a doubt one of the best restaurants in Rotterdam. If you are looking for truly authentic Thai food, this is the place. I have been searching for real Thai flavors in the Netherlands for such a long time, and nothing ever came close – until now. This restaurant immediately reminded me of my friends from Thailand and the meals we shared together. There is something so genuine about the taste here, something that feels warm and honest. Ik heb hier besteld en afgehaald sinds Dok boa net open was. Vanaf het begin was ik erg onder de indruk van hun hoog op smaak, compromisloos koken. Maar met de tijd ben ik eigenlijk veel minder vaak gaan bestellen. Omdat het de laatste tijd vaker een teleurstelling dan een plezier is.

En met de laatste afhaal is even de maat vol. Iets met koriander in de beschrijving besteld, en thuiskomen ontdekken dat er geen enkel blaadje koriander inzit, wat ik een schande vind voor de Thaise keuken.

Er word nu gewoon lui en ongeïnspireerd gekookt.

Wat voorbeelden van de recente teleurstellingen:

-Dikke grof gesneden stukken gember in de wok die meer bitter zijn dan naar gember smaken -Piepende sperziebonen ipv de beloofde kouseband -Ik mag van geluk spreken als er gewone ipv Thaise (veel lekkerdere) basilicum word gebruikt. 1 keer Thaise basilicum gehad was heerlijk. 3 keer daarna hetzelfde gerecht besteld kwam niet in de buurt. -Geen verse koriander wanneer beloofd! -Bij pittige gerechten vaak erg luie oplossing met veels te moeilijk hete gedroogde pepers ipv dun gesneden verse chili, ik kan best wat hebben op pittigheid. Maar dit eten was een beproeving. -Hun unieke isaan gerechten vaak niet/nooit beschikbaar. -Broodjes niet consistent lekker. (Weer een geval van paar keer ongelooflijk goed, rest slecht) -Te veel uit de vriezer gekook met voornamelijk vlees/vis -Bij wok alles tegelijk bij elkaar gegooid dus gaarheden van groente niet goed (deze kunde...
